Greenwood drops out
Bucks Rep. makes it official - he'll take job with biotech company. Successors lining up.

U.S. REP. Jim Greenwood yesterday acknowledged the rumor rumbling between Washington and his Bucks County district for a week - he is dropping out of his re-election race to head a biotechnology lobbying group.

The big question now: Who will replace him on the ballot, the like-minded moderate Republican state Sen. Joe Conti or the more conservative Bucks County Commissioner Mike Fitzpatrick?

A group of 120 local party delegates has until Aug. 19 to decide. Bucks County Republican Chairman Harry Fawkes gets to choose 100 of those delegates, with the others coming from small sections of the district in Montgomery County and Philadelphia.

"It looks like is going with Fitzpatrick," Greenwood said. "So frankly, a betting person at this point says he's out front."
