I got a nice e-mail from Lloyd Doggett

Cut and paste of the text below. I had gone to his website and filled out his online survey. I'm posting the link to his site for anyone interested. I'm always proud to say that Doggett represents my district.

"Thank you for your recent reply to my survey in support of paying down the debt. I certainly agree.

The soaring national debt is creating a "baby tax," with every child born being responsible for an ever-increasing amount of the money borrowed today. Unfortunately, over my objection, the House voted to increase the statutory debt limit for the third time in three years to $8.18 trillion, a figure representing 70% of the entire U.S. economy and a $2.4 trillion increase since the Administration took office in 2001.

We are now beginning to see the very real results of this breakdown in fiscal responsibility. The value of the American dollar has declined significantly. And because the U.S. has overwhelmingly relied on foreign investors to finance its debt, some economists and the International Monetary Fund are warning that the American dollar could collapse and cause a global financial crisis.

The decline in the dollar, brought on by the government's compulsion to borrow and borrow some more, will have dire consequences for hardworking American families by creating a "new home," a "new car" and an "education" tax. Borrowing means higher interest rates, making it more expensive for families to make major purchases or fund a college education.

Two bipartisan groups have scored my voting record on supporting fiscal responsibility and opposing wasteful spending as among the best of all Members of Congress. The Concord Coalition has consistently evaluated my voting record as among the most fiscally responsible in Congress. For six years, I have been recognized as a top treasury guardian by Taxpayers for Common Sense, including being ranked #1 in the last two rankings.

Rest assured that I will continue my efforts to restore fiscal responsibility. In the meantime, please keep me advised of any federal matters on which I may be of assistance."
