World’s First Fully Renewable Biodiesel Facility opens in Denton.
Wow. Actually NOT an April Fool, as far as I can tell:

03.17.05-- The grand opening ceremony for the world’s first renewable-energy powered biodiesel facility will take place, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the City of Denton Landfill in Denton, Texas. The new biodiesel facility has an initial production capacity of three million gallons of pure biodiesel per year and is powered by renewable biogas extracted from the adjacent City of Denton Landfill. This progressive project is a cooperative effort between the City of Denton and California-based Biodiesel Industries, Inc. "We're excited about this path breaking venture,” said City of Denton Mayor Euline Brock. “We will be able to resolve some of our major environmental challenges while providing a major service to the public."

Biodiesel is a nontoxic, biodegradable alternative to petroleum diesel that substantially reduces air pollution. This high-performance fuel can be used by itself or blended with petroleum diesel. It runs in diesel engines with no alterations. Biodiesel is a designated alternative fuel under federal law and is fully registered with the U.S. EPA. More than 500 fleets like the City of Denton use the fuel.

1. awesome!
i'm liking this. if only the government could get on board, or the oil companies, we could have renewable energy sooner rather than later. i'm sick of using oil.

3. Actually Willie Nelson
beat them to it. Check out this article. But my hats off to Denton for having the courage to promote a more effective alternative to the petro-industrial-complex!!! I can only hope that they will have an influence on the rest of the surrounding counties...

DALLAS -- "On the Road Again" means something new for Willie Nelson these days -- a chance for truckers to fill their tanks with clean-burning bio-diesel fuel.

Nelson and three business partners recently formed a company called Willie Nelson's Bio-diesel that is marketing the fuel to truck stops. The fuel is made from vegetable oils, mainly soybeans, and can be burned without modification to diesel engines.

"There is really no need going around starting wars over oil. We have it here at home. We have the necessary product, the farmers can grow it," said Nelson, who organized Farm Aid two decades ago to draw attention to the plight of American agriculture.

4. Exciting! And perhaps this can break down the wall?....
of prejudice you have against those north of NorthWest Highway? :P

And I have a diesel, can't wait for the opportunity to buy some of this, either Willie's or Denton's, or make my own.
