You know, Texas has one little thing that just blows my mind. |
|
In California, I went into the DMV and asked for the forms so that I could get a Handicapped placard. They handed me a placard and I asked about the doctors referral. They said if we can tell you are handicapped we give you one automatically. The only time they require a doctors referral is when they can not tell.
Texas requires you to go to a doctor and get a form filled out even though you are in a wheelchair. And have had Handicapped plates and placards before. That just blows my mind.

1. Would a Texan borrow or rent a wheelchair |
|
and go to DMV just to get good parking spots?
Nah! never happen there. No sociopaths in that state.

But I have had handicapped placards and license plates in this state before. But I still have to go to the doctor to get a note. I understand fraud, but dang.

They are the kind who drive 'round and 'round the parking lot until they spot someone putting groceries in their car close to the front. Then, they spin around at the speed of light and force you to sit behind them until the other car leaves and they pull in....20 feet closer than they would have been if they had just parked in the nearest hole. Then to top it off, when they get out of their car they're wearing a headband and jogging outfit. (anyone got a gun?)

4. I am guilty of "parking spot stalking", and I will tell you why: |
|
there have been just enough cases of parking lot muggings in this area to put the fear of whatever in me, since I am out alone after dark quite a bit. I WANT to be near the doors of these huge malls with these huge parking lots. I live in Texas...and that is my main reason for doing this.
Simple as that.
I am also guilty of not really wanting to hike a mile to the mall entrance in August heat, but that is another issue.
I had to get one of those dr orders for handicapped, after foot surgery. It was worth the little bit of trouble, though because it allowed me to park in the nearest spot to my office in the huge parking lot tower complex for two months. I did not use it that much for other stuff, but really needed it while the foot was healing. The difference between a 5 minute walk and a 15 minute walk was quite helpful

5. That doesn't stop fraud |
|
I know someone (a huge repuke btw) who uses a handicapped space but she is definitely not handicapped at all. Perfectly able-bodied. Makes me sick.

That the placard is to someone else in her family, likely her mother or father who is more or less permanently living in a nursing home.
