Got an email from Dallas Peace Center: Rally in Crawford, noon Saturday.
Support Cindy Sheehan's initiative for Peace in Iraq

Cindy Sheehan, whose son Casey was killed in Iraq, is holding vigil in Crawford, Texas until she gets a meeting with George Bush. She has a simple question to ask him: “What did my son die for?” She also has a clear demand: “Honor our sacrifices by bringing our nation's sons and daughters home from a war based on lies and deceptions.”

Please join Dallas Peace Center activists at a Cindy Sheehan support action at the Crawford Peace House this Saturday, August 13, at noon. (At least a two-hour drive from central Dallas.) This in part of a national call in which we expect hundreds of participants form all over the country.

For more information, call the Dallas Peace Center, 214-823-7793, admin@dallaspeacecenter.org,

Or call the Crawford Peace House, 254-486-0099, crawfordpeacehouse@yahoo.com.

We are looking for an organizer to coordinate a day trip caravan from Dallas to Crawford.

1. I hope I can make it up there on Saturday
I heard they want to hold the rally at the stadium, because they expect thousands. That would be so sweet to have that many people come and join Cindy and Bill and all the other families.

Bless them.

2. We are going to Crawford Saturday
I'm not sure what time. Probably early. We will have to head back around 3-4 because we have a wedding to attend.

3. And of course, I'm scheduled for a lecture in Dallas that Saturday...
I don't think I can make it, but I can at least head down to Crawford and give Cindy a big fat hug after I'm done lecturing.

ginbarn will probably be down there all day tomorrow, so maybe she'll be able to participate.

5. More info on the rally/caravan from Austin for Saturday & Sunday
Date: Thu, 11 Aug 2005 22:07:02 +0000
From: "Debbie Russell"
Subject: Crawford: RALLY SAT./carpooling/INTERFAITH svc. Austin Sunday

CRAWFORD RALLY SATURDAY, Aug. 13, at the CRAWFORD PEACE HOUSE--NOON!
The Saturday noon rally will highlight ALL the many military families that have converged on Crawford - after the rally we will caravan to "Camp Casey" site of the vigil in front of the ranch.

HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT CINDY and the MILITARY FAMILIES:
- Come to Crawford or donate money or miles so others can come (see below) and take others who don't have cars (see bottom)
- Spread the word by contacting the press
- Gather some friends and go to your busiest intersection with a banner that reads, "GEORGE MEET WITH CINDY!" Brainstorm creative ways to pressure Bush to come out of his coward's lair and talk with her.
- If you can't go, join Friday at the 5-6pm vigil or Sunday at an interfaith service:

Austin Against War’s Weekly Friday Vigil Friday, August 12
AAW will dedicate its peace vigil to Cindy Sheehan and the other Gold Star and military families (www.gsfp.org, www.mfso.org) that are in Crawford demanding Bush explain why their children were killed or are in harm’s way. Come between 5 and 6pm and bring posters telling Bush to talk to Cindy. CARPOOL AND CARAVAN FROM HERE TO CRAWFORD.*

INTERFAITH SERVICE in AUSTIN, SUNDAY, 3pm:
Austin Center for Peace & Justice is hosting an interfaith service at 3pm this Sunday –What are our troops and Iraqis dying for? What is our civilian obligation? Join Dr. Robert Jensen, Mary Berwick, former chaplain from Iraq war Garland Robertson, and Cindy Sheehan (who will join us by cell phone/speaker) and many others representing various faiths who are currently being invited.
LOCATION: St. Andrews Presbyterian, 14311 Wells Port Drive (at Wells
Branchway between I35 and Mopac)

DONATIONS: for Cindy Sheehan's protest:
Monetary donations are needed and can be sent see: http://www.crawfordpeacehouse.org/

Flashlights/batteries
Wet wipes
Banner and poster supplies
Rope (& other things to hang banners and signs)

Bug spray

DIRECTIONS from AUSTIN
(it takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes to get there):
Take IH-35 North towards Waco. As you enter the Waco area exit Hwy 6 to FM 185 which will take you directly into Crawford.

Go straight through the light at FM 317. Take a right at the Luthern Church (Prairie Chapel Rd). Travel approx. 3 miles (the road will wind around a bunch). The camp is on the left where Prairie Chapel Rd. intersects Morgan Rd.

Another route to Crawford:
Take IH-35 North. In Beltan take the Killeen exit (Hwy 190) in Belton. Turn left as if you are going to Killeen. As the road curves, go straight on FM 317. You will pass through several small towns and will end up in Crawford. Turn left at the first light.

Take a right at the Luthern Church (Prairie Chapel Rd). Travel approx. 3 miles (the road will wind around a bunch). The camp is on the left where Prairie Chapel Rd and Morgan Rd. intersect.

CAMPING:
Camping available in Tonkawa Park and at the Crawford football stadium/park area is available…see: http://www.crawfordpeacehouse.org/protest.html for motels and more camping details.

CARPOOLING/CARAVANNING:
Austin Against War’s Weekly Friday Vigil, 5-6pm, Capital: CARPOOL AND CARAVAN FROM HERE TO CRAWFORD tomorrow*

SATURDAY MORNING CARAVAN:
Please meet at 7:45 a.m. (for a 8:00 a.m. leave-out) at the UT LBJ School of Public Affairs parking lot to caravan and offer rides to those who want to go up for the day/weekend.* Go in the entrance off Red River nearest Dean Keeton http://www.utexas.edu/maps/main/areas/lbj.html -we’ll gather at the northeast corner of that lot, nearest the Red River Dean Keeton intersection. Don’t leave your car here if you plan on staying in Crawford past Sunday night.

Note that if you get a ride up, you may have to find a different ride back as some are staying just a short while, some all day, and some will camp…but there should be plenty of opportunities.

Please contact Debbie at debstuff@hotmail.com or call 573-6194 after Friday 5pm as point person to let those needing rides know to expect such.
--------------------

I recommend that you take the alternate route (Another route to Crawford) listed above if you're driving from Austin. More scenic.

Cindy speaks for me, too!
