1. I'm game...
but you already knew that.

For folks coming from out of town...would it be better to do something before the rally or after?

2. I think before
I'm going to have someone watching my kids, and I have to get back to Houston at a reasonable time because they have school the next day.

Ivan Espinoza, of HDGE, will be going on the bus. He e-mailed me about meeting at the Information Center that is in the East Mall in front of the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Building

If I have time, I'm game to hang after the rally, just depends on what time it ends.

3. I kinda figured that "before"...
was gonna be the thing to do.

Do you have any idea when the busses are supposed to get there? Because we can arrange transportation to brunch/lunch for people if they're coming by bus and want to come eat. Just gotta know when and where.

There's a place where the local DUers do brunch all the time and we could always go there. :)

4. He said the bus was leaving Houston at 10
He wasn't sure what time they would get there, so we're going to TRY to meet. This is my first official trip to Austin, so my hubby is along for navigation purposes. I don't know where ANYTHING is.

and time, we'll make sure to get you good directions. The place we usually brunch is on a well-known street and you can always follow us from there to the rally. We'll make sure you get from point A to point B.

6. That's cool
Just let me know where to be, and I'll be there! We're planning on leaving at 10 AM as well, but I'm sure we'll travel faster than a bus!

7. Well, depending on where in Houston...
Edited on Fri Aug-12-05 11:48 AM by VelmaD
you're coming from it's about a 2.5 hour drive to Austin (maybe 3 if you're on the far side of Houston) so that won't put you getting here til about 12:30ish. Eep.

The place we had in mind is called Curra's. It's on Burnet Road. They do a fabulous brunch and the rest of the menu is pretty damn good too. :)

8. I'm south of Houston
However, my husband has quite the heavy foot, and a radar detector. I'm sure it won't take us too long to get there.

12. Alright I'm making an executive decision...
we're meeting at the north Curra's at noon on Sunday. Probably go in to eat around 12:15.

Don't worry if you're gonna be a little late...we'll save room for everyone.

14. Ok...when you're coming into Austin...
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 05:43 AM by VelmaD
no matter which route you take you eventually hit the interstate (I-35). Get on it going north til you hit hwy 183. Take 183 North (it'll take you to your left). Take the Burnet Road exit and turn left under the overpass onto Burnet. The address is 6801 Burnet. It'll be on your left (it's a ways down after you turn on 183).

If any of the Austin folks have better directions...feel free. This is just what I figured was the easiest way to get there.

Oh, and if you have problems finding it you'll got my cell number. :)

15. OK...Here's a question
What does it cost to get into McKinney Falls? The website says there is an entrance fee, but doesn't say what it is. We'd like to stop by the falls on this trip, but we need to find out if we can afford it. Any idea? We called the 800 number on the website, but of course, there's no one there on weekends.

The State redesigned their Parks website on August 1st - while I was using it! The old site was actually much more useful. Here's the fee list from the old site, which I rescued from the Google cache.

Edit : fixed borked link.
