Update on North Texas Air
Holcim, air quality groups compromise on permit request

Midlothian Mirror Managing Editor

Confrontation has given way to compromise between one of Midlothian's three cement company and local environmentalists

After almost a year of negotiations, leaders of the DFW Blue Skies Alliance and Downwinders At Risk joined representatives from Holcim (US) Inc. and the Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday to announce that a historic clean air accord had been reached.

Under the terms of the agreement, Blue Skies Alliance and Downwinders At Risk will drop their fight over Holcim's permit application to increase production and emissions at their Midlothian plant in return for Holcim's commitment to undertake a list of projects to reduce emissions and monitor air quality.

Agreement with one cement plant in Midlothian

At least one plant seems willing to talk. Now I am curious to see if the others will follow. TXI has always been hard to deal with from what I can gather from the reports of environmentalists. Here's hoping more progress can be made.

with all its rolling hills and all despite the concrete plants. Every community has its ugly spots but overall its quite beautiful here. Just an opinion from someone who lives here.
