Houston DUers: what's up with this du.meetup.com site?
I went here looking for Houston meet-up info:

http://du.meetup.com/6/

There's 31 other Houston DUers who've signed up there, looking for meet-up info. It tells you that there's no 'organizer' for this particular group. So I looked into becoming the organizer. They want me to PAY $19 to become the organizer! What on earth is going on? Is this for real?

I haven't seen any Houston meet-up info posted here for some time, and would like to meet some fellow DUers!

1. Meetup.com started charging for all of their groups
back in April, I think. A lot of candidates' groups and Dem party groups bailed rather than pay for the online service. Most of them just set up their own mail lists or Yahoo groups as a substitute.

2. Hi there lavendardiva
I was the organizer for the DU Meetups, and we had some great ones; had about 25 people at one, but always had at least 4-6 folks.

As you have discovered, Meetup went insane.

I'm about to start up the Drinking Liberally group again here:

http://drinkingliberally.org

...and I'll make an announcement about the first meeting shortly (and it will be here, obviously).

4. Yes, and more
Hopefully.

I think that the location will have to change due to football season, so I'm open to consider other spots (good food and drink and quiet enough to have conversation are the only prerogatives).

Suggestions, anyone?

13. Melbourne!
It sure is a small world! My dad worked for Exxon, and we were the first American family to move there. He was designing the first gas plant there. We lived in Melbourne for 2-1/2 years, and then moved to Sale, 130 miles from there, and lived there for 4 years! While in Melbourne, we went to school at Methodist Ladies College. We lived near Box Hill, I think. I still vividly remember that house, I just loved it. It was beautiful!

12. uh, yeah
we're almost neighbors. but if you're on the east side of Mandell, we're in different precincts. :) I'm 2 blocks the other side of Artiste, and do drop by there sometimes. More frequently the CHocolate Bar!

6. Canyon Cafe?
Good margaritas, not sports oriented, so football season shouldn't be a factor.
