Crawford schedule of events this weekend, w. Marcia Ball, JOAN BAEZ
Got this via email:

As you all know the vigil outside the Bush Ranch in Crawford Texas has captured the eyes, ears and hearts of the nation's people and media. This experience has been amazing, inspiring and life-changing for many of us here at Camp Casey. Cindy Sheehan and her family (relatives and Gold Star family) are tireless and brave; a new family has been forged here in the heat and passion of the past week and a half. Texas CODEPINKers and all of the other Texans who have shown up at the camp have been so wonderful and supportive, refuting the stereotype that all Texans are Bush supporters.

This weekend at Camp Casey will be full of music and celebration in the spirit of peace. Below is a list of events taking place at Camp over the next few days:

Thursday- Mothers March to Laura! at 6 pm

The mothers of Camp Casey will march from the campground to the Bush Ranch; delivering letters to Laura Bush's door and asking for her husband to meet with Cindy. We will hand deliver letters from around
the country, if you would like us to deliver a letter from you please fax your letter to the Crawford Peace House at 254-486-0172 by 3pm CST. Join us in pink if you can! (see carpool suggestions below for details)

Friday- Marcia Ball kicks off the weekend of music, 7pm at Camp Casey

Saturday- Roses for Cindy, our pink rose of Texas! 3pm
We will be presenting Cindy with nearly pink roses sent from all over the world to thank her for her courage and heart to stand up to the President and expose his lies. Over 700 roses have already been delivered and have been put among the crosses honoring fallen soldiers. If you are interested in sending a flower to Cindy (or if you are able, please join us to deliver them), there is still time to lend your support- click here to give our rose a rose.

Sunday- Celebrate the new Camp with Joan Baez at 4pm
Camp Casey will be moving to land closer to the Bush Ranch (and across from Bush's church, no less.) Joan Baez -singer, songwriter and activist extraordinaire- will join Cindy Sheehan and Camp Casey for a day and evening of song, spirit and inspiration. Be sure not to miss this one-time concert, and stand in solidarity with Cindy and her family, CODEPINK, military families, veterans and others at the new Camp.

Also, we are still encouraging people to join us in Crawford- if you want to organize a carpool (or know someone who does) please send your information (name, email address, how many seats in your car, etc.) to birddogbush@codepinkalert.org and we will soon be setting up a page off of the Cindy page from our site that will host a small carpool posting board. Check the Cindy page (link from the homepage) regularly for updates, and you are encouraged to post your rideshare offers and needs.

If you are interested in sending supplies to the Crawford Peace House http://www.crawfordpeacehouse.org/, "campers" are in need of flat sheets, towels, disposable cameras, and the other supplies listed on the CODEPINK site. http://www.codepinkalert.org

3. A polite correction if you please
Your link to the Crawford Peace House http://www.crawfordpeacehouse.org/ included the comma following it. Although this is good grammar, it causes the link to fail.

I was at the Peace House about an hour ago. There are a lot of people milling around. If you go there, stop by to offer assistance and DONATIONS, but be aware that the real action is at the camp. (and there is more room at the camp)And remember to call ahead to find out what they need before you decide to bring stuff. It seems that the Ice issue has been solved, but that is not the final word. Just call ahead 254-486-0099.

4. More news some Austin specific but most is not
From Debbie Russell (Austin Against War and Code Pink)

Joining Cindy in Crawford recently:
---FBI Whistleblower Colleen Rowley
---Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern
---Minnesota State Senator Becky Lurie, who lost a son in Iraq
---Eve Ensler of the Vagina Monologues, is there covering it for O Magazine
---Many more families of fallen soldiers and various celebs TBA

See news at: http://www.democracynow.org./streampage.pl to see a GREAT clip of a mother of a fallen soldier in DC last night saying, "We will not let you MOVE ON with your lives…" referring to Bush’s call to just let him be…poor lil’ bugger!

MUSIC this weekend at the encampment:
--Marcia Ball and her whole band FRIDAY NIGHT (7pm-ish)
--Carolyn Wonderland (and others, TBA) Saturday, not sure times
--Sunday: JOAN BAEZ!
& yay for all the womyn musicianz! (Speaking of womyn…see CodePink
announcement at bottom).

RALLY TONITE and tomorrow and SATURDAY and Sunday…..it goes on!

ASKS:
Please CARPOOL. If you are going up, please post on the rideshare forum that you are offering a ride or look for others that need rides! Those folks can always find another way back once there, so you don’t have to commit to leave out time – there is LIMITED PARKING and we are trying to make the world a better place, are we not? ‘Nuf preaching:
http://crawfordpeace.nfshost.com/forum/1

Those needing rides Sat/Sun., note AUSTIN WEEKEND SHUTTLE INFO:
http://crawfordpeace.nfshost.com/node/637

WHEN YOU GO: go by the PEACE HOUSE first for directions and ask what YOU can do to help! Directions to Crawford, Peace House and encampment below*

NEEDS:
Computer/internet needs: http://crawfordpeace.nfshost.com/node/743

ICE -- always bring coolers full of ice to share (bring enough food and water for your carload) --when you get there, ask at Peace House if they need ice, and if not, take to the encampment and ask at the ‘commissary’ – the community kitchen – or the CodePink ladies might know who is in need…or ask anyone that looks like they’ve been there more than a few days if they need ice! Make a new friend!

LIGHTS – battery-powered and otherwise (we are looking into drawing electricity from our host), holiday-lights are good & transportable spot lights of any nature…if you can make it up Friday by 5-6pm with larger lights, please let me know: debmocracy@yahoo.com -- take any lights to the stage area (mark your stuff!) – or simply set up holiday lights in darker areas at night to help people not stumble around.

SHADE! There’s very few trees on the property, so we need shade structures or some kind of poles with tarps tied off with rope to them. Bring extra tarps and ropes…people can use trucks/trailers to tie off to as well. Mark your stuff if you want it back (and put "AUSTIN or name of your city" after your name)—and leave it for others to use as a gift when you leave for the weekend…you’ll probably go back the next weekend anyway, right? ;) I’m sure we will coordinate someone to bring back all leftover stuff marked "Austin" here and
post an announcement to where to come retrieve it.

FOLDING CHAIRS/tables if ya got ‘em – if you have extra, scout to find who can make use of the others.

SOUND TECH? Anyone out there that will be there Sat. or Sun. that knows sound? Call me at 573-6194 if so.

*Getting there (it takes 2 hours)---
--- Deb’s preferred route to Crawford (most direct, while avoiding the
busier Temple):

Go I-35 north to "Eddy" and take the 107 exit (it’s 107 to the west, it’s 7 to the east) aka "Eddy Gatesville Parkway" – go west/left and drive thru town, past "2113" and take a right/north on 317 which takes you directly into Crawford. You’ll see the George and Laura billboard and hit the main intersection. Take a right and the Peace House is on the left – you can’t miss it.

Map of Crawford:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=9142+E+5th+St,+Crawford,+TX+76638&ll=31.532897,-97.437336&spn=0.016506,0.030088&hl=en
The Peace House is one block east of the RR tracks on 185. To the east of that is Tonkawa Park, where there is a GREAT swimming hole with a waterfall to cool off (don’t swim alone—moccasins are cooling off too!), and parking in the football stadium for shuttling to encampment if you don’t want to have to deal with parking up there (highly recommended for the light travelers).

Going west on 185 "thru town" (as it were—that’s the intersection of 185 and 317), turn right on Prairie Chapel Rd. and follow it, with no turns, out to the encampment (past the triangle of last weekend).

CODEPINK
PINK-leaning ladies…want to start working with CodePink? If you are going up to Crawford, note a CodePink breakfast Saturday, August 20th at 8:30AM at the Texas Tea & Coffee in McGregor – on 3rd Street and FM 317. Map: www.texasteaandcoffee.com. Sign up on the codepinkaustin@yahoogroups.com list if you want to join in the fun! Note we are having our discussion group still on Sunday at the Austin History Center, 9th and Guadalupe, from 1-3pm.

---------------
Peace, keep it growing!

Sonia
