Texas Gunman Kills 4 in Church, Then Self
By Associated Press
August 29, 2005, 10:02 AM EDT

SASH, Texas -- A gunman killed four people at a rural church in a small north Texas town, then held off police in an nine-hour standoff before apparently killing himself, officials said Monday.

At least one other person was wounded.

The gunman reportedly knocked on the door of the Sash Assembly of God church Sunday night, then started firing when the door was opened. Three people were shot, including the pastor, according to WFAA-TV in Dallas. It was not immediately clear if the pastor was the wounded person or one of the two dead.

Two women in a car outside the church were then shot and killed, police said.

2. No motive yet for the shooting
But based on the location and the circumstances, I have my suspicions about what this might have been about.

How fucked is our nation when what I'm really hoping is that this guy was just some deranged lunatic who chose a target at random?

4. It has nothing to do with "Texas"
try again. Like murder only happens in Texas? pshaw ...

A nine-hour standoff ended Monday when a gunman killed himself after fatally shooting four people near a church in the North Texas town of Sash, authorities said.

Garland transplant Freddy Leroy Cranshaw, 54, generally kept to himself, collecting and repairing car radios in the back of his home, which was less than 50 yards from the Assembly of God Church.

But Sunday, Cranshaw started yelling at Pastor James Wayne Armstrong, 42, his wife and three others as they talked in the yard in this small community 100 miles north of Dallas, an official said.
...
Police surrounded Cranshaw's house. During the long standoff a 10-member SWAT team made two attempts to enter the home, but retreated when Cranshaw shot at them, Moore said. Police finally entered the house about 6 a.m. after firing tear gas inside. Cranshaw was found in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head, Moore said. Police think Cranshaw shot himself about an hour earlier.

5. Seems to happen just a little more often in Texas
I'd like to see some figures. More or less violent crime in Texas.

Then again it is a 'big state' but so are CA and NY.

6. I have read

that under wonder bush's governorship we had more deaths . as in capital 'punishment' . than ever. I believe it.

In spite of the rednecks, Texas is a good place. They do put a damper on the happy times though.

I would like to see those numbers too. I'm just too lazy to look it up right now.

7. Hillbillies screw up Ohio too
That's why I left. That and the unemployment.

Nothing like someone who most likely dropped out of HS telling you just what is what in the world. After 6 years of higher education centered on "Foreign Relations" it never fails to raise my bile.
