2. Louie Gohmert and Lamar Smith |
|
Gohmert is a first-term Republican, one of the DeLay five swept in on redistricting. He's a tool; they say 'frog', he jumps.
Lamar Smith is one of DeLay's best friends in Congress. He's given money to his legal defense funs. Recently.
I'll anticipate what others have to say, but IMHO thye're run-of-the-mill conservative zombies.

Plays follow the DeLay leader without missing a beat. Smith's district 21 now runs from S/W Travis to Bexar Co. in San Antonio. At a town hall meeting here in Austin Saturday, he was still parroting the tax cuts are good for spurring the economy and he still supports them. Yes even now, with Katrina disaster. And the very next thing on his agenda is immigration reform. Smith claims 91% of Americans support it. He didn't say how the question was posed in the poll. Smith serves on the judiciary committee, the science committee, homeland security committee as well as the ethics committee. His answer on DeLay probe and the recent PAC indictments in Austin, is that he couldn't talk about it and that he will recuse himself from that vote on DeLay.
The other important thing I know about Smith is that he is a Scientologist.
Hope that helps.

4. not that very relevant |
|
interesting thing I read about Lamar Smith.... it was in the DeLay-o-meter... basically, how you rate in comparison to DeLay.... Smith got $0 or some minimal amount FROM DeLay unlike other people (probably had enough funds himself) but gave $10,000 to the DeLay defense fund.
Just interesting.
Sonia, as always, knows all the details.
