I know Texas takes a lot of abuse, especially here on DU. But you guys were heros when it came to taking in Katrina evacuees, and now you're facing your own monster.
All you gulf-coasters are in my thoughts. I pray this storm weakens before it hits.
Please stay safe, and don't take any foolish chances if you can avoid it. We need all the Texas Democrats we can get.
God bless you all. You'll be in my thoughts the next few days.

My sister-in-law, her husband and children reside in the Houston area. They've been in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you, Kenroy, for your sentiments.

We live in Ohio and spoke with them Wed early AM ... they were heading for Dallas. Good Gawd, I hope they'll be safe there. I don't know what they'll find upon returning home; however, that's down the road. PS Are you Irish/Scot/Welsh by chance? I know, idiot question in these terrible times!

Yes, I'm of Irish ancestry.
They should be fine in Dallas, and that's all that matters. It sucks to lose possessions, but they'll be safe, and that's what's important.

I'm worried about the people in all that bumper to bumper traffic in the heat and running out of gas, too. How frustrating is that? Then on top of it all they are saying they might get caught up in the hurricane on the road because they can't get out fast enough.I've never seen so much suffering and disasters in all my life. It's truly heart breaking. I hope all those people that have to endure the hurricane will all be safe. I am so sad with what is going on.

It means so much for someone to come on the Texas forum and say this. (Esp after some of the "jokes" the last few days).
My family should be safe. One uncle cannot leave until midnight (he works at a refinery, and that's when he'll get off). At least he'll be leaving then, so he'll be safe this time tomorrow night.

I thought the refineries had all been shut down? Anyway, best wishes to your Uncle.

9. My uncle left at 5 this morning |
|
He's bringing up his parents (who are not in the greatest health). He said an hour ago he was almost Lufkin and that traffic was moving okay.
So he should be here around 2-3 I'm thinking.
