The WimDems are pleased to announce our
Distinguished Speaker for this very Special Event
Former Speaker of the U.S.
House of Representatives
Jim Wright
'50 Years of Presidential Leadership: 1954 - Present'

Speaker Jim Wright was a member of Congress for 34 years, served 8
American Presidents from 1955-89 and was the majority leader of the
Democratic Party from 1977-87 when his colleagues chose him as
Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Please join us for this privileged occasion to welcome the Brother
of our own Ms. Betty Wright, and to hear his searching, humorous and
enlightening insights, gained through his long and tumultuous
career.

Speaker Wright helped President Carter achieve the historic peace
agreement between Egypt and Israel, and was the principal advocate
in Congress for an energy policy to reduce our dependence on
Middle Eastern oil. His most recent book, Balance of Power:
Congress and the Presidents from the Era of McCarthy to the Age of
Gingrich was published in 1996.

During World War II, Wright flew combat missions in the South
Pacific, earning a Distinguished Flying Cross. He is currently
writing his memoirs about WW II. Among Speaker Wright's many
current activities, he is a distinguished lecturer at Texas
Christian University where he teaches a course entitled "Congress
and the Presidents." His personal archive and library form a
Special Collection at the TCU Library.

He will shed major light on many of the problems the United States
faces in the world today.

There is no charge for this event. Join us for Refreshments and a
Reception with Speaker Wright.

Take the challenge: Everyone please invite and bring one friend,
family member or co-worker--- or pick up the phone and call your
friends and family about this event.
