San Antonio Ditches Progressive Radio (KRPT)
Edited on Tue Nov-29-05 11:33 AM by sparosnare
I really enjoy listening to Stephanie Miller and Ed Shultz every day at work. Unfortunately, when I tuned in yesterday, what I heard was country music, and "92.5, The Outlaw". Confused, I pulled up the KRPT website and it hadn't changed, tried to stream, no luck.

So I called KRPT. After being bounced around a bit, was told they changed their format because ratings were low. I asked for specifics and was transferred to the program director - an emplyee of WOAI, the home of Rush Limbaugh and right wing radio. Had to leave a voicemail and as of yet he hasn't returned my call.

I have a hard time believing the ratings were bad. I have to do more digging, but I believe the format change is an intentional squash move by the right.

1. Better to have loved and lost
than never to have loved at all.

We can't seem to get any of our 14 Clear Channel stations to consider picking up AAR in one of the largest radio markets in the nation.

6. I guess so.
And at least I now know that 90.1 isn't lying when they say I can surf the radio all I want and I won't find anything worthwhile, that they are my "only alternative". At least up in 103-less NW.

Jerry, it was worth being late to work for the last year so I could drive in with you.

2. ron aaron wasn't too happy either
but he did point out that it was hard to pick up the station from almost anywhere in town. that's probably why it had crappy ratings. :)

if ya want to listen to steph & ed (via stream), go here:

3. Thanks for the link!
And you're correct about the reception. Some days good, other days not so good. :hi:

5. At least you still have KTXX with Air America
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 02:12 PM by FrankLee
don't you? San Antonio, TX - KTXX-FM 103.1 FM

Do they carry the whole lineup?

I was shocked when KTRH added Ed Schultz recently. 9p-11p, but that's about it for Houston.

7. We do, but we don't.
The tower's in Kearnes City, so it doesn't pick up at the medical center, UTSA, and other areas in the north and west side.

8. KTSA is doing some local stuff
Sean-Paul Kelley, who runs The Agonist, is hosting an entire week of Democratic candidates and progressive bloggers between the year-ending holidays, December 26-30.

Chris Bell is on for the 28th. David Van Os will likely appear, Charles Kuffner of http://www.offthekuff.com">Off the Kuff, and others.

9. Sean-Paul's got a show on KTSA?
I know he's been on it, but he's got a whole show?

I feel another cycle of "I love Texas" coming on in my love-hate relationship with this place.

10. He's been pinch-hitting some recently and
this week-long gig appears to be in the same vein, as the regular crew takes the last week of the year off.

If a whole buncha us listen in and stream it and call in, who knows...
