Urgent plea for help....
Hi all--

Many of you have seen our baby, and have paid me wonderful compliments on Fargo, who appears in the pets gallery.

Fargo is a Great Pyrenees, and because I couldn't stand the thought of getting a dog from a breeder when so many are put to death every day, we got him from Texas Great Pyrenees rescue. These folks do wonderful work saving Pyrs all over the state.

I received this yesterday from one of the heads:
---------------------------------------------------------------------

THIS IS AN URGENT, LIFE-OR-DEATH PLEA!!! SUMMER DUMPING IS AT ITS HIGHEST!

We are totally inundated with dogs being left in shelters across Texas.
Just this week, there are EIGHT DOGS IN NEED that have just days before being killed and, we have
absolutely NO room to take them in. We are totally backed up, our foster homes are at capacity and we DO NOT WANT THESE DOGS TO DIE - we think you want them to live too.

The ONLY option we have is either expensive boarding or to find foster homes. To save them, we have absolutely no other alternative. The alternative boarding facilities are extremely expensive because of the summer vacation season - some running from $10 per day to $15 per day.

We can only save what you want us to save - because of the unbelievable number of dogs we've take in during the past month, we can only help these new ones if we have the funds to keep them boarded or if good people either step forward to foster.

Adoptions are slightly down right now, too, because of the summer vacations.

If you are a prior adopter, and you are able, PLEASE CONSIDER FOSTERING one of these dogs for at least the next MONTH. Contact us ASAP at txgrtpyrs@yahoo.com

PLEASE HELP NOW!! We will be monitoring these situations and for each person that steps forward, a dog can be saved from certain death - If you can help with fostering/boarding costs, then we will commit to the animal control facility to PICK IT UP and together, a dog can be saved!!

THANK YOU!

If you want to call Laila directly, let me know and I can give you her phone number.

Our Pyr is the sweetest, most even-tempered dog, and if you have the space, or are needing a pet but don't know about permanent commitment, fostering is a wonderful way to improve a pet's life before they go to their forever home.

I'm also posting this in the lounge.

1. Pyrs are great dogs
We have bearded colies and participate in herding competitions. One of the people who trains herding dogs has two Pyrs and they are great dogs. Prys are livestock protection dogs and are great pets.

2. Oh, man. I wish I could help!
Living in an apartment with 2 elderly cats and 3 birds pushes us to our limit with the ol' landlords. I donated a computer last year to the Akita rescue - they had no way to get information out before that. Good luck! :loveya:

3. Thanks sweetie.
Even Repug family can help with this. If you know anyone who can take one in for even a few weeks, that would help.

:-)

PS-- Did you see the newest DFW get-together thread? It's been noticeably gin-less so far!!

Check the state forums!

5. Thanks for it information
I can't do anything right now, but when I get home I will check this out again. We have 20 acres in Llano county. We used to have an Akbash when we were there, but he got out on the highway and got hit by a car or truck. He died on the way to the vet.

Anyway, I would not think of getting another big dog like that untill I get the fence more secure. But I will be in touch.
