National Guard soldiers from Texas summoned to Iraq duty

By Chris Vaughn

Star-Telegram Staff Writer

FORT WORTH -- The U.S. Army has ordered the callup of a Fort Worth-
headquartered brigade of 3,000 front-line soldiers from the National
Guard, the largest combat deployment of Texas citizen-soldiers since
World War II.

The mobilization of the 56th Brigade of the 36th Infantry Division
will pull soldiers from cities large and small throughout North and
West Texas, including Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, Denton,
Weatherford and Stephenville.

The troops must report to Fort Hood in Central Texas for intensive
combat training in mid-August before deploying to Iraq early next
year. The Iraqi deployment will last at least 12 months and is
expected to be in the Baghdad area, officials said.

"The last time the 36th Division was in combat was in World War II,"
said division commander Maj. Gen. Michael Taylor. "Now we'll show up
in Iraq."

Royse City is headed to Indiana for some sort of training there before he's off to Iraq. He's one of the smart ones. Hates Bush. We trade literature with him a lot.

He'll be the 3rd person I know over there somewhere. I found out a couple weeks ago that my cousin's husband is in Afghanistan, and her son is in Iraq.

3. If Lt. Combest
is so thrilled with the prospect of going to Iraq, you got to wonder why he hasn't already volunteered to "go active".

4. The sh*t witll hit the fan when forest fires which are expected to
be horrific this year have less manpower to battle the blazes.

It would be interestig to know given the dire warnings about terrorists attacks if homeland security is comprised by the drain on the Guard.
