Nueces County (Corpus Christi) sheriff's race
I've been so caught up following the gubernatorial race, the local county chair races, and assorted judicial races that I'm not up to speed on the local Nueces County Sheriff's race.

Who do you Nueces County folks like among Pete Alvarez, Joe 'J.B.' Ballesteros, Mark Cantu, Robert 'Bobby' Longoria, and Jimmy Rodriguez, and -- most importantly -- why?

1. The League of Women Voters has a VOTERS GUIDE
on their website (http://www.lwv-cc.org), and I believe the sheriff candidates will be speaking at the LWV-Corpus Christi Candidates' Forum 6 PM Thursday evening at City Hall. I haven't yet decided who I'll vote for.

2. The LWV guide is good, but the candidates' answers are too "politiciany"
They all say what they think you want to hear, and there is not enough of a sense of how the various candidates would differ as sheriff. I'd think Alvarez would win on name identification alone, but the police union seems pretty displeased with him and I'd like to know the real reasons why.

It kills me that Chris Bell's deal is the same time as the LWV forum; I'd really like to go to the forum, but I promised a friend I'd go to the Bell event for one last chance at being persuaded before I fully commit to a primary candidate. If today's Chris Bell event had been organized by a Democrat instead of a Republican, I bet it would not have been scheduled to conflict with the LWV forum.
