Hypothetical question re: voting in Republican primary.
I was looking at the GOP primary ballot for my precinct and noticed the statement at the top of the page that read "I am a Republican and understand that I am ineligible to vote or participate in another political party's primary election or convention during this voting year."

Does that mean you couldn't even attend the other party's convention? Or just that you can't participate as a delegate or alternate, etc.?

1. I'm pretty sure it means you can't attend the convention either.
Ours (the Democratic ballot) says the same thing, btw.

2. Plus, you may get lice, genital herpes, and an unstoppable intestinal bug.
Actually, that's not true. I just said that to prepare you for the real horror -- you may get Republican party campaign literature for the next decade (YIKES)!

3. Oh, I already get lots of GOP propaganda.
I send all sorts of interesting things back to them in their pre-paid envelopes.

13. I know how to get them to stop
that is, if you want them to stop it.

My friend for years & years, despite pleading, calls, letters to stop, kept getting fundraising letters from the Republican Party. She started writing checks to the Dems, making a copy, & then send the copy along with a letter saying "Everytime you send me something, I'll send a donation to the Democratic Party." She had to do this a couple of times, but lo & behold, they finally stopped sending her stuff.

5. You couldn't attend as a delegate to the state convention and vote
But you could attend as a visitor. Our convention is open for anyone to watch. The open forum part is in the main hall with speeches etc. Once we break out into senate district caucuses, that's when you have to show your credentials.

However, if you do vote in the repuke primary and miss our Democratic primary, we break your legs. Just kidding, but please don't miss our primary.

6. Thank you for the info. That makes sense.

The thing is, in my county, where the GOP website proudly proclaims, "Collin County only elects Republicans!", there are no virtually no Democrats running for local office. The few that are, are unopposed. But several of the incumbent Republicans have challengers this year, something I find very interesting. And my congressman, Sam "Nuke 'em" Johnson, has a challenger who is very critical of Sam on his website. I am tempted to cast my vote to rattle the incumbents' cages.

7. Oh, yeah, if I were in your shoes I'd be tempted to cross over.
In my half and half county, I totally have to vote in the Dem primary. Gotta vote for my DA candidate.

8. What about you run next election and give voters a choice next time
You may be in repuke country, but if you don't start giving voters a choice, things are never going to change. And if you won't run, maybe you can start looking for candidates who will run, next election season. Just a thought. I now it's scary, but what do you have to lose. Even if you didn't campaign seriously i.e. raise money, just having your name on the ballot in November would be a choice.

2008 - it can't wait!

9. You know it used to be that no repukes ever won but they got
candidates and ran candidates and ran and ran and ran. Then the yankees invaded us again and Texas became repukes. (Sort of kidding about that last part but an influx of northerns did make a difference.)Getting out there and going for it will take time and money but as long as these bozoes keep messing up, we get closer and closer to making the change back to a Democratic Texas.

12. Bill was not on the ballot for my precinct.
And he has no opposition in the Democratic primary. But I certainly will make a donation to his campaign.

11. Membership in a political party in Texas
Under the Texas Election Code, voting in a political party's primary legally constitutes becoming a member of that party. This is in lieu of registering by party, which is the practice in many states. It has been this way in Texas almost forever.
