Sign stealing in the Democratic Primary (CD-7) Culberson district
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 04:47 PM by johncoby2
If the Henley campaign or his supporters had anything to do with stealing Murff signs that were put out at the polling locations I would be very disappointed. Those responsible should be found and banned from the damn party.

It is odd that only Murff signs were taken and at 80 different polling locations! That really is odd.

Dear Mr. Henley, 3-7-06

I expected this out of a republican, but as a fellow democrat, I am very disappointed and disgusted to say the least. Last night, and into the wee hours of the morning, Mr. Murff and supporters tirelessly went to each polling place (approx. 80 polling places) and placed Murff for Congress signs. As voters well know, these campaign signs remind people who are running for office and allows voters to see their choices in candidates. It is evident to me that your campaign/supporters, took most, if not all, of Mr. Murff’s signs. Shame on you! You tout that you are running a strictly positive campaign and a campaign that would be a good example to your students. I have seen deceit, a lack of ethics, and a lack of integrity out of you and your campaign. Is this the lesson plan that you planned? We are supposed to be fellow democrats. Democrats stand for values and we stand for what is right. We do not silence our opponents and take away the people’s right to choose. We allow the voters to choose who they think would best represent THEM. You, Mr. Henley, do not get to choose that!

Mr. Murff continues to be the only candidate in this race that has carried integrity and honesty while you continue to run a campaign by bashing your fellow democratic opponent. Never once did Mr. Murff have to lie, cheat, or steal his way through his campaign. He stuck to the issues and offered the constituents answers to the issues. It is not expected that everyone agree with Mr. Murff. It is simply the fact that the constituents are at least given the foundation work for what lies ahead if they so choose to support Mr. Murff. Mr. Henley, for the most part, you and Mr. Murff agree on most issues. There are some differences in your solutions, and that is where the voters are supposed to make that choice.
I call for you to show a sign of true leadership and replace the Murff for Congress signs. Maybe then, I can hold some respect for you if you win this race.

Sincerely,
Lindsey Murff

2. I seriously doubt
that Henley or anyone having to do with his campaign had a hand in removing Murff's signs. I know his campaign manager and he would NEVER stand for such a thing. Now that the primary is over and Henley is the winner, I would like to see Murff and his supporters get behind him. I doubt that being that Murff or his people didn't even contact Henley's people at all last night after the returns were in.

3. I supported Henley but still put Murff signs out yesterday morning
and the Murff signs weren't missing in front of my polling location that I'd seen the night before when driving home from the Progressive Populist Caucus meeting. Mr. Smarty Pants Liberal put signs out for every Democrat that we could get our hands on - heavier on the Gammage, Henley and Miles though;-)

Interesting observation though - several of my peers were missing Gammage signs at the end of the day. The stakes were still in the ground, just no sign. Said peers were not necessarily Gammage supporters, just putting out signs for Democrats.

Sign stealing is nothing new. My father was the general superintendent at the local plant of a steel company when McGovern ran for president. One Friday he came home with the shop truck and a kiosk made out of perforated steel. The next day we drove to headquarters and he picked up as many posters of McGovern and signs that they would let him have. The posters and signs would disappear in the night and he'd just replace them in the morning every day until the election. If his candidate lost in the primary in later elections he dutifuly pikced up signs for the winner and displayed them until the election.

Guess that's why I asked WestHoustonDem this morning where I could trade my Gammage bumper sticker for a Bell bumper sticker and she said she'd need to change her Murff sticker for a Henley sticker.

Henley's campaign was pure grass roots and WOW! Look what they did! Doubt the missing Murff signs had much of an impact on the results.
