Even in Boston, Texas Dems working to make state house comeback
BOSTON — Democrats in Boston are asking Texans to help send Republican President Bush back home.

Meanwhile, the Texas delegates hope to reduce the number of Republicans in the Texas House of Representatives to greet him when he gets back.

Some Texas Democrats hope to seize on momentum from the presidential ticket of John Kerry and John Edwards, and animosity toward Bush, to begin to reverse the GOP's 88-62 advantage in the state house.

"Spread the word that George Bush is not nearly as strong in Texas as people think he is," Texas Democratic Chairman Charles Soechting told delegates at their organizational breakfast here Monday.

The Democrats, with large eyes, think they they might be able to beat six or seven incumbent Republicans, including two in Austin and Travis County. Democrats also know they have almost as many other seats vulnerable to Republican takeover.

The Democrats hope to change out enough House members to replace Republican House Speaker Tom Craddick of Midland.

1. It would have been nice for McNeely to have mentioned
our candidates' names. Oh well...I like the ABC idea. Craddick proved he's a worthless tool.

2. Since he won't I will...
Mark Strama and Kelly White. Just wish someone was running against Terry Keel in my district so we could take back ALL of Travis County. Oh well... 2006, when we retire Wentworth too.

3. I (and some other precinct chairs) met with the Kelly White folks Sat.
I think we can get her elected. It'll take work, but if we get the vote out, we can make it happen. I'm excited.

5. So, question...
My Precinct Chair is not returning my calls. I have two calls in to her. Maybe she was doing something for the convention, I don't know, although I have to admit, that if anyone called ME and offered to help out with activist work, I would be all over them like white on rice. ANYWAY. I'm going to call her again this weekend and if she doesn't call me back, what should I do? I'm thinking about just going out and canvassing my precinct myself. We are historically a 50/50 precinct in terms of going D or R and I really think that a GOTV effort would make a difference for this precinct. Although since we got gerrymandered into Eddie Bernice's district maybe people would say the effort is better spent elsewhere, but I think getting out my precinct could make a difference in county, state races etc.

I dunno.... Thoughts?

6. Which precinct are you in?
You might try caling or e-mailing someone at the county party office. If your precinct chair is falling down on the job, someone there can offer you some tools to assist you, I'm sure.

8. Heh. All done.
I think I just managed to get someone thrown out of her PC position. Well, that wasn't quite what I meant to occur, but hey... I am now the proud owner of a big stack of voter registration info of my precinct. Woo!

9. Wow! You got your information already?
I wish the Travis County people were that efficient. Maybe we'll get all that stuff THIS week. :eyes:

Congratulations!

10. Way to go, girl!
My county chair wanted to replace out precinct chair with me a couple months ago.

He never comes to our meetings, but he at least works every election. I HATE working elections with the uber-Christian, uber-toadies in our town.

You can do it on your own. we have one lady out here (you probably met her at the Outfoxed party). I call her the "Energizer bunny." she does it all the time, and she just had stitches put in her finger a couple weeks ago!

She's fearless!

4. I'm working to help get Patrick Rose re-elected!
We went to a volunteer appreciation open house in Dripping Springs last night and my yard now sports a sign! Patrick's headquarters is in San Marcos but he opened up a call center in his parents remodeled garage.

7. This was a topic of conversations at the convention
apparently there's a lot of quiet fundraising going on and the money's going to winnable races, and there are an awful lot of winnable races in the legislature this year. There were a lot of flukes that won 2002.
