4. Who is doing the threatening?
There will be plenty of security at the screening, which will probably not be needed.

I don't understand why he would feel any more vulnerable in Crawford as anywhere else.

9. I've been to Crawford, have you?
That news story was not informative in the least. Just what anyone would expect.

It would have been far more positive a gathering than negative, had Moore shown up. All bets are off now.

3. Yesterday I started a thread speculating

on the dangers to MM by invading the "home turf" of the
childish gang which is the right wing of the rethugs.
I think its a valid concern, knowing how these people
think.

I think he did the right thing in canceling the trip. There is
no need to get into a shoving match with these retards or provide
them with an opportunity to seriously hurt someone. They will,
no doubt, now call him "chicken" and other playground taunts.
All he has to remember is that millions of people are viewing
this film, it's making even hardened republicans rethink their
choice of W. He's winning. And that's all that matters.

7. Not so much

but I was worried about one or two wingnuts with rifles and scopes
out by the tree line or ditch or, dare I say it, the bushes.
I think it's a valid concern.

8. That can happen anywhere.
It is no more likely to occur in Crawford.

But I get ypur over-all point. Michael has been living with death threats since 'Roger and Me'. I don't think that is why he didn't show tonight.

10. It CAN happen anywhere... this isn't a dig against Texas

but my point is that they would feel irrational rage due to
the "invasion" of thier leaders home turf...

11. But it isn't his home turf.
He isn't from Crawford...and many Texans despise him.

12. No conspiracy, protesters from Waco were organizing
and the police force of Crawford, population 705, was getting pretty anxious about the whole thing. As it is, the towns population will probably double for the screening. With Moore coming, they were expecting it to triple. Keep in mind that Crawford is too tiny to have a movie theater. The screening was taking place outside and very well could have been rained out. As of last Thursday, Fahrenheit 9/11 finally got a screen in Waco, the closest city. Moore's appearance would have been symbolic at best, a security nightmare at worst.

13. since the other thread degenerated into ad hominem
I thought I would ask here (any one of the 3,000 who went last night):

How was it?

14. It was fabulous.
Great time was had by all. To see so many people there on short notice on a weeknight far from the major cities was very inspiring.

16. 2500-3000 people there to see the film. 150 protesters.
Bushies had lame signs "Moore lies more than he eats"/"Kerry is a Fairy" and big mouths.

Filmgoers laughed at or ignored them. If we hadn't, there really could have been an incident and there wasn't much security at all.

One guy was standing 1/2 way down the audience screaming "Moore is a faggot. He's a fucking faggot." Not one person said anything to him. He left.

Prefilm conversation I heard was about who has read what books and wher to get T0shirts etc. afterwards heard a conversation with a guy trying to explain to his friend why not to vote Nader and another guy was thinking out loud, "I wish this whole Bush thing was just a bad dream."

Overall mood was not of anger at Bush, but of grim determination that things have got to change.
