Dallas & Surrounding Counties: NEW JUDICIAL CANDIDATE! |
|
Well, ladies and gentlemens, revise your slates. We have some breaking news. David R. Weiner (D-Dallas) was named as the Democratic Party's nominee for Place 12 on the Court of Appeals for the Fifth District of Texas by a special meeting of Democratic county chairs from the seven counties within the court's jurisdiction. The counties are Collin, Dallas, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, Rockwall, and Van Zandt.
I met the candidate at the Texas Truth Convention last night. He's running against a Perry appointee who had NO experience in appellate court work before he was appointed. Meh!
I haven't been able to find a website yet, although I heard he had one (from someone other than the candidate). He seemed like a very thoughtful and well-qualified candidate.
I'm just glad the D's have managed to field a respectable slate of countywide judicial candidates here in Dallas, as well as some other good local candidates. There are still a lot of areas where people don't have a choice. That CANNOT be allowed to continue. In the words of the immortal Howard Dean, we need to field a candidate for EVERY race!

We don't have someone running against Sam Johnson... hate to see him build up his money supply. But I am glad we are fielding more candidates in the smaller elections, that is where change starts in politics.
