Melancon--running for Ralph Hall's seat--wins Dallas Morning News Endorsement |

:applause:

Sherman's Glenn Melancon is the more qualified Democratic candidate for this congressional seat, which runs across suburban Rockwall and Collin counties and much of Northeast Texas. The Southeastern Oklahoma State University history professor commands a far better understanding of the issues than does Sulphur Springs tax lawyer VaLinda Hathcox.
The 42-year-old is certainly conversant about the challenges Texas families face. For example, he wants any qualified doctor to be on the list of providers that insurance plans offer. That would help families gain access to more doctors, a particular problem in small-town Texas.
We also like his support for a cap-and-trade system to lower carbon emissions. Under this plan, companies would have to make a decision: Do they want to pay more to pollute more? Or do they want to save money by polluting less?
Mr. Melancon is more protectionist on trade than we like, one of several policy differences between him and this newspaper. But even when he doesn't agree with us on the issues, he knows the issues.
He is not a first-time candidate; he ran for this seat in 2006. Ms. Hathcox, 60, ran that same year as the Democratic nominee for land commissioner. Both lost their races, but Mr. Melancon holds the most promise this year for his party

3. Thanks for the pointers |

You know I seem to remember that DVO made a call on DU to help Glenn and some of us did respond. So he got a little out of DU that year.
Tell him we said hi. :hi:

4. Perhaps I should rephrase that |
|
He was actively hoping for some grass roots support (read: volunteers)from here. However, at the time, many were already doing as much as they could with some of the other candidates and he didn't receive any. I have no idea if he received any financial support. Off topic...I saw my first Ralph Hall signs today.:puke:
