Rosenthal resigns as district attorney amid e-mail scandal

Chuck Rosenthal resigned as Harris County district attorney today amid an e-mail scandal that recently forced him to abandon his re-election campaign and a lawsuit filed today that sought his removal from office.

Bill Delmore, chief of the D.A.'s legal services bureau, which oversees the general counsel's office, confirmed that Rosenthal issued a press release in which he says he contacted the governor's office to tender his resignation.

"Although I have enjoyed excellent medical and pharmacological treatment, I have come to learn that the particular combination of drugs prescribed for me in the past has caused some impairment in my judgment," Rosenthal wrote in his resignation letter.

Bye, bye Chucky!!

Just exactly what combination was that? I've done all sorts of drugs in all sorts of combinations but none of them resulted in extreme STOOPID! This "enquiring" mind wants to know so that I don't accidentally find that same combo.

4. Yes I'm sure he'll be lining up speaking engagements
Speaking out against the danger of that secret pharmacological combination.

Reminds me of the Jon Stewart show this week when he did a skit on the Roger Clemen's & steriods in baseball hearing. The Republicans said they thought that Clemens was being "lynched" so they went soft on him. One of the women Republicans on the panel said:
"Maybe you would like to say something about yourself, like how hard you work keeping yourself in shape."

And Jon said "Yes, what's your secret? Do you have some formula you'd like to tell us about?"
:rofl::rofl::rofl:

3. District attorney quits, citing prescription drugs

District attorney quits, citing prescription drugs

(snip)
Gov. Rick Perry's plans for an interim replacement to lead the district attorney's office until Rosenthal's term expires Dec. 31 weren't known Friday.

Rosenthal, 62, said a prescription drug combination had impaired his judgment and said media coverage of his e-mails — which included sexually explicit and racist content and affectionate notes to his executive assistant — had taken its toll on his family.

"Although I have enjoyed excellent medical and pharmacological treatment, I have come to learn that the particular combination of drugs prescribed for me in the past has caused some impairment in my judgment," Rosenthal wrote in his resignation letter.

(snip)
Rosenthal's resignation effectively ends an investigation by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott last month into whether he violated state campaign laws.

Why does Perry get to appoint someone?

And even more disturbing is why the Texas AG just stops the investigation of whether Rosenthal violated state campaign laws, because Rosenthal resigned. What kind of law is that. If you stop committing the crime, well we'll just forget about it. That sure doesn't work with other crimes. He should still be held accountable for his crimes if he broke the law. No get out of jail free passes just because you were the D.A.!

5. johncoby suspects Rosenthal's drug cocktail was viagra
Bay Area Houston blog 2/16/08
Rosenthal blames Viagra for hot sexy emails

A side effect to the continued use of Viagra is becoming blind. This gives new meaning to the question "Are you *&^%ing blind?". In Rosenthal's case, it wasn't viagra that made him write the hot, steamy, sexy emails to his voluptuous secretary, but he now claims it was a combination of prescription drugs that led to his incompetence.

"Although I have enjoyed excellent medical and pharmacological treatment, I have come to learn that the particular combination of drugs prescribed for me in the past has caused some impairment in my judgment," Rosenthal wrote in his resignation letter.

Well, I guess the question is now "Are we *&^%ing blind?".

Something is seriously wrong with the leadership in Harris County from the head to the tail and it needs to be cleaned up in November. County DA Rosenthal, Commissioner Emmet, Commissioner Eversole, County Sheriff Thompson, Supreme Court Justices Medina, Hecht, and Green, and State Representative John Davis. All of them Republicans. All of them mired in controversy.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

12. And more to come...
Questions are being raised, per the "Rush Limbaugh and I are good Republicans but we have a little prescription drug addiction problem" resignation letter and the statement by the AG's Office which confirmed it, as to why the Attorney General's Office, rather than the Harris County Attorney, was preparing to remove Chuck Rosenthal from office.

While seeking to protect their own interests by leaving things be, the Harris County Judge and the Harris County Attorney may have not realized that the Attorney General's Office wasn't interested in seeking to protect THEIR interests above the interests of the other Republicans in the state. And they may not stop at Chuck Rosenthal.

The Harris County Republican Party may have pushed the "self-destruct" button by accident with their pandering to themselves in the matter of Chuck Rosenthal. If so, good riddance to bad rubbish.

13. Oh...
He also was apparently taking Ambien so no doubt just to limit the amount of "impaired judgement" which of course is a real can of worms given all the prosecutions that passed by his desk and he approved, no doubt he will claim next that it wasn't really the prescription drugs but the Ambien and he was apparently sleepwalking when he deleted all those emails. Someone said the "side dish" is also married. Maybe they had orgies with the Sieglers on the weekends. Maybe they helped Kelly Siegler perfect her "mounting techniques" for the courtroom.

Just when you thought nothing could top Tom De Lay. Who knows. Someone may yet top Chuck Rosenthal. Lots of questions being raised about Tommy Thomas as well now. First the DA, then the Sheriff. Who might be next?

I'm so happy to see the Rosenthal's of the world get their due. They've been shoveling it out for so long, they think they're entitled to it. And when they get caught with indisputable evidence of their guilt, they have to start spinning about their special circumstances. It's so much like the Twinkie defense.

So Chucky were you on drugs all your life?

Harris County district attorney resigned after offer from state, lawyer says
Rosenthal's attorney says the state offered to stop investigating if he stepped down.

HOUSTON — Chuck Rosenthal decided to resign from his position as Harris County district attorney after the state offered to stop investigating him if he stepped down, Rosenthal's attorney said.

Defense lawyer Ron Woods told the Houston Chronicle that Rosenthal had had enough of an ongoing investigation by the Texas attorney general's office into inappropriate e-mails found on the Republican's office computer.

Rosenthal stepped down Friday. The e-mails, which included dozens of pornographic, racist and political messages, unleashed a public outcry and prompted the state investigation that threatened his job.

(snip)

"I relayed the attorney general's position that they would end the removal investigation if he resigned, and he made the decision to resign on Thursday," Woods said.

Well there you have it.
