Congressman Chet Edwards (Dino- Waco) endorsed Obama |
|
I think he finally figured out which way the wind is blowing.

He lives in the most conservative district a Democratic Congressman represents in Texas - even more so than District 22 which Lampson represents, you certainly didn't think he was going to back the Clintons, did you? Even if he supported her, he probably would have to keep his opinions to himself until after the primary.
No one is going to claim Chet Edwards is a progressive but he's siding with the Democrats in backing Obama early. He's not like Lieberman who switched to an Independent and now backs John McCain.

2. I didn't really expect him to endorse anyone |
|
He votes with the Republicans more often than he votes with the Democrats, so I expected him to sit this one out.

3. We worked hard to keep Chet in office when the repukes paid |
|
for a flood of lies to be put in their TV ads about him. We managed to keep him through 2 changes of district elections cycles until Delay finally got him into a sure thing repuke district which still did not work. I remember our County chair taking him to task for his vote on the war. Chet said that the vote for war was a hard decision but one he made based on the facts given to him. This was in weeks of the vote.
"Chet Edwards has voted with a majority of his Democratic colleagues 95.0% of the time during the current Congress. This percentage does not include votes in which Edwards did not vote." Project Vote Smart
"Rated 23% by the Christian Coalition. ....
I have found him to be a hard working Congressperson who tries to represent ALL the people in his district, (BTW, his fil was a Baptist minister who was so angry with his church's stance against Disney okay of health care for gay partners that he bought a Mickey Mouse tie to wear to church meetings.) as opposed to the Delay loving, creepy Conaway that I am so lucky to have had reredistricted my way.

4. He drifts with the prevailing winds |
|
In 2006 The American Conservative Union gave him a 68% rating. That's hardly an admirable record.
