Is any one else here having trouble getting back into things post Ike.
We had the first hurricane to worry about and then Ike was in the background.

Nobody knew for awhile where Ike was going, but it would be bad.

Then we had to get ready for Ike.

I did enjoy the quiet time off but time I think I am going though delayed stress.

We still have all the trees to be picked up off the street and storm damage to look at.

Then thinking about the Gulf Coast and what we lost.

I am trying to get back into normal life but it is hard.

1. Hi texanwitch.
I had a bit of trouble resuming my regular routine post-Ike.

It has only gotten better in the past few days. My family and I are very fortunate - no injuries, loss of life, or major property damage, but it's just hard to get back to business as usual after a major natural disaster.

My family are long-time friends with people who lost their family business in San Leon. Needless to say they are devastated but want to rebuild.

Ike was much worse than Alicia.

I hope you came through the storm ok.

2. We just got our power back on Friday, still getting used to lights again.
Being off of work for over two weeks was nice but I lost track of what day it was.

It was like being in limbo.

I didn't mind the dark, but I am glad it has cooled down now.

We were dealing with Ike for a long time, not knowing when and who would be hit.

So many people around the neighborhood were still covering windows late on Friday of the hurricane.

We were all hoping Ike would go somewhere else.

We didn't suffer any damage but we lost the old beach house, it was a old friend.

We went for the last time a week before the hurricane hit for the last time.

Seeing what happened to our beautiful coast is really hard, so many people lost everything.

I know many people who are feeling out of it.

Many people still don't have power yet, I feel for them.

3. I just got power back Sunday afternoon.
Had my first work meeting Tuesday, and I am back at work for the first time today. All that down time really had me in a funk. Not having a routine, along with the saturated Ike coverage was really stressful. It reminded me of how I felt after 9/11. I was unemployed at the time, and just sat home absorbing every bit of info for too long.

Today I am at work trying to locate employees who are as yet unaccounted for. So far, I have been lucky. I have confirmed that 6 are OK, and have had 3 I could not contact. No bad news yet.

The island looks so strange. Once you come over the last "hill" there are dozens of boats still sitting on the sides of the road. Trees and bushes are all brown from the salt water. Those beautiful trees that line Broadway.... all brown, with one or two overturned on most blocks. Stores' entire inventories lay in 10 foot mounds in their parking lots.

Still, as bizarre as it all looks, the debris itself is a sign of progress. People are cleaning up and moving along.

4. We are going to Galveston this weekend if possible.
We know we lost the beach house but still need to see it for ourselves.

I lost track of time and what day it was.

Slowly getting back to normal here, our streets are still full of trees yet.

Getting the power back was great.

Life will get better.
