1. Not one to make any "positive" *cough* statements towards the GOP |
|
But I think Palin is partially intimidated by KBH. Also Palin self-identifies with the brand of loony fake-religious for political gain conservatism espoused by Perry. Plus I think she and Perry also used a little too much hair-spray at one time and suffered a bit from it.
As for the same type of conservatism, I think that in addition to withdrawing back to their Dixiecrat roots, the GOP is shattering along this same religious line and I think you will see Perry go down in flames as it is just too fake even for most Pukes.

The real problem for Kay Bailout Hutchison is the "Bailout" and saying now that she regrets it doesn't alter the fact that she voted for it and bottom line is that will come back to haunt her among most Republicans. There are Republicans who didn't support it and don't support it and a growing number of economists are predicting that our economy will be worse in 2010 than in 2009 and so if Rick Perry manages to keep the state solvent he will most likely win the primary. Even with quite a few holding their nose as they vote for him. There are a growing number of moderate Republicans having problems covering their bills. And are not blaming the Democrats but blaming the Republicans who supported King George and his welfare program for the "have-mores" which at this point seems to be more a matter of the "stole-mores." Just the same it is going to be a fun race to watch and while they're being polite at the moment no doubt both will start "slashing and trashing" by the fall. If another Republican enters the race they will probably win the primary in a proverbial landslide. Some are saying another one might.
It would be nice if we had a solid Democratic candidate. Given the choice between a Democrat and Rick Perry or Kay Bailout Hutchison, some moderate Republicans would probably vote for the Democrat.

5. The state is barely solvent |
|
And already currently floundering.
The bailout is really a non-issue. There is a huge difference between a bailout and an economic stimulus and personally I am tired seeing the two confused.
Economy is nothing more than the movement of money and the stimulus is designed to getting money moving again. At this point, most of the money is locked up tight by large corporations and the rich investors (many offshore). These are the groups who tend to hold onto money and whose spending has little to do with actual movement of real money. The real effect of a multi-billion dollar windfall by the likes of Bill Gates is probably a smaller effect to the economy than 100 million spent by you or I.
The only real stimulus that will work will be to get the money moving again. Again, because it is locked up, I think the only way to do that is to institute the progressive tax system (keeping more cash in the lower and middle classes while breaking up the economic stagnation in the upper ends) and to close most of the corporate and investment loop holes which have allowed money to exit the grid particularly through tax avoidance. At this time the Federal Government is probably the only mechanism large enough to get the money out of those sinks and back into the economy in a way which puts it back into the middle class. However, any change also needs to happen at the state and local levels where Corporations and rich individuals have also gamed things as well with tax breaks for industrial parks and real estate investments. They take their profits and leave development and maintenance of the infrastructure on the community. (Also include Walmart's infamous non-support of Health care here where each Walmart store costs something like 1/2 million in additional costs to emergency services as these now become the only health alternative for their part time and hourly employees).

6. From your mouth to Pelosi's ears... |

"I think the only way to do that is to institute the progressive tax system (keeping more cash in the lower and middle classes while breaking up the economic stagnation in the upper ends) and to close most of the corporate and investment loop holes which have allowed money to exit the grid particularly through tax avoidance."
But do duck after you whisper it in Pelosi's ear. She's likely to try to deck you with a right hook and then have you arrested. She is a Republicrat and the Republicrats in Congress firmly believe that the middle-class should pay for the rich and the poor alike.
As for Texas, there is a surplus. Not much but it's there. Compared to other states, we are sitting pretty. California, for instance, is a financial disaster area that may need a trillion of its own to survive. Congress hasn't gotten around to the states yet. The trick for Perry will be to adjust the budget for the coming year to the decline in income while not being too draconian with tax cuts or tax hikes most of which will come in increased fees. Remember that a fee is just a tax called something else. Personally I don't think he can do it. The surplus will be tapped and the income may decline more than anyone believes it will and we may find ourselves in California by the time the primary rolls around. Perry won't announce that we are in trouble of course. Kay Bailout Hutchison will. Even that may not help her.
As for the bailouts the reality is it is the perception that counts to Republicans. Mainly because the reality is usually too much to handle. And the perception is she is just another free-spending liberal with regard to Wall Street. Time will tell. But I suspect I'm right.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. Or being gay either. Perry and Dewhurst are both strongly rumored to have affections for their own sex.
Of course they're both "in the closet bi" s. Never can understand why they hate so much, since they obviously should love everyone.

And I think I was poking fun at the rumor and just poking at those who spread it. Although it was shocking to hear a Republican occasionally comment "who cares?" I guess change does just happen on its own.
