Austin: URGENT!!! Protest AA-S Endorsement of * noon Sunday!
AUSTIN FOR CHANGE ||| WWW.AUSTINFORCHANGE.COM

FOR URGENT AND IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION-PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL OF YOUR LISTS, FRIENDS, FAMILY, ETC

It's a go. It's on the web already...

Endorsement: Despite flaws, Bush better leader for perilous times
Click for the whole article: http://www.statesman.com/opinion/content/editorial/endorsements/2004/24Endorse_edit.html

We cannot stand for this. Meet us at high noon (sharp!) on the Congress Ave Bridge with your favorite shirts and favorite signs.

We need as many people as possible. Drag everyone you know along. If you were at the Flash Mob on Friday, you know how powerful we all are TOGETHER.

Please show up, and bring your walking shoes and your dialing fingers.

We will be distributing maps and leafletting walklists with leaflets as well as phone lists to call. We will be distributing both from the site (look for Glen's orange Element) and also walklists from 512 E. Riverside Suite 203 immediately afterwards and throughout the rest of today and the rest of the week.. If you would like to phone and do not want to get a list from us, go to 701 Rio Grande. We need to do everything we can to COUNTERACT this travesty, and the best way to do so is by hands-on activity in the streets. We need to stand up and fight back.

See ya there!

1. I knew those weak RealEstatesman bastards would do it
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 10:15 PM by sonias
Here is part of their editorial crap:
"An erosion of civil liberties under the Bush administration also troubles us. A time of war requires the nation to address security issues, but we see in Attorney General John Ashcroft's policies a frightening capacity to abridge constitutional rights. Ashcroft also needs to go.

We urge Bush to approach appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court with the same eye for balance that he did in selecting appointees for the Texas courts when he was governor. Those of us who admired the way he was able to forge bipartisan alliances with Democrats in the state Legislature yearn to see the Texas Bush inform the Washington Bush on effective, inclusive governance.

We do not make this endorsement lightly or without reservation, and we ask that the president return our faith by acknowledging his failures and acting to correct them."
--------------------------
What planet do these fucking editors live on? They trust the bu$h boy to acknowledge his failures and act to correct them.

2. I'll see you on the bridge!
I keep trying to think of an insightful slogan for my sign but so far "Austin American-Statesman Sucks!" seems to say it all for me!

6. I made one sign already
"I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore.
I want my country back!
I want my state back!
Fire Bush and Oppel!

I also like the idea of just cutting out the paper masthead
taping that to a sign and writing "Trash" on it

5. join us on the bridge bluestateguy
We need a big showing. We got about 200 people out on a Friday at noon. This is a weekday so we should have at least twice that number.

I am a subscriber and I was thinking that something we could do is toss our Sunday papers on their doorsteps once we label their front page with the words "trash".

7. I sent this letter
"In your endorsement, you praised Bush for his potential towards 'radically changing the course of government.' That's not always a good thing. In 1932, Germany voted for 'radical change,' and it didn't turn out so well for them. Be careful what you ask for."

8. You go guys!!!!
This is incredibly disappointing!

My LTTE from Houston:

The Statesman endorses Bush. I just don't get it.

Gasoline is over $1.85 a gallon costing the average family $1200 year more.

This President presided over the two worst intelligence failures in history resulting in 9/11 and the attack on Iraq.

We invaded a county based upon false information, costing $120 Billion, the respect of the world, the lives of over 10,000 innocent women and children, and the lives of more than 1100 of our soldiers.

The stock market closed below 9800 less than when he took office.

Retirement accounts are a quarter of what they were 4 years ago.

Insurance rates have doubled costing $600 year more.

Our environment in Texas is the worst in the nation and now the United States is learning what that means, thanks to Bush.

Unemployment is up to 6% from 3% four years ago.

The economy has lost nearly a million jobs since he took office.

Job growth is stagnant.

We have become the target of all terrorists around the world.

We never caught the anthrax terrorist.

We never caught Bin Laden, but Saddam a bad man who did absolutely nothing to the United States is behind bars.

The list can go on and on. In fact trying to list just three positive criteria used to rate the state of our Union is very difficult if not impossible. I can name one: low interests rates, but can't name two more.

It is obvious the Statesman's editorial staff can't do it either.

10. My letter e-mailed today to Statesman
The Austin American Statesman’s editorial board endorsing G.W. Bush was a mistake, and like Bush they can’t seem to acknowledge making a mistake. Instead they wear their rose colored glasses, and tell us to stay the course down blind faith alley. The problem is G.W. Bush has driven this country into a ditch, and no amount of wishing or faith is going to pull us out. We were on the wrong course when Bush drove us into that ditch. A majority of Americans believe that this country is on the wrong track, and I think we’re the only ones who can correct our course, by changing drivers. I say trust your own gut America. We need a fresh start. We need a strong, intelligent leader like John Kerry.

To believe that the Bush administration is going to admit it has made mistakes and correct their mistakes, is a very dangerous assumption. Americans, Nov. 2nd is the chance you have to have a say. Four more years of a Bush administration is four more years of eroding your civil rights, four more years of corporate domination of policy, Hailiburton no-bid contracts, and continued support for outsourcing of jobs, and of course the possibility for more questionable wars.

As Americans, we know we can make mistakes, and more important we're smart enough to know that we have to admit that mistake before we can correct our course. Collectively we can all decide that we have a better choice in John F. Kerry.

Only then will we find out how we were led into this Iraq war, who approved the torture at Abu Ghraib, what energy companies met behind closed doors with Dick Cheney, who the anthrax killer was, who outed our CIA operative Valerie Plame, what's in the Ronald Reagan presidential files Bush won’t release, and everything else this administration is trying to keep under wraps. We need to take our country back and correct course now. Vote!

9. My cancellation letter to the Statesman
To The Austin American Statesman Subscriber Services

"Because of your Bush endorsement flaw, any other news source is a better use of our time and money"

Please cancel our subscription to your newspaper effective immediately. We no longer feel that your newspaper promotes the best interests of our city, our community and our country. We certainly get an equal if not better take of national and local news from the Internet, so we find that we have no reason to support your paper. We plan to contribute the $144/year, are now saving due to this cancellation, to our local Democratic party to help us clean up politics and other non-profits working for peace, justice and the environment.

Ya Basta con el Austin American Statesman!!

Just put that puppy in the mail just now after getting home from the protest on the bridge.

I challenge any other Austin American subscribers to make the same pledge to send your money to the State Democratic Party or your local county party. Just read their crappy news stories on-line if you have to.

11. DROPPED THE AMERICAN STATESMAN SUB.
Was this last weekend (Sunday) or this weekend. I just now read this note and have already emailed cancellation of my service. We have subscribed for many years and pay by the year. I've sent a letter of cancellation along with many links WHY this was ludicrous and asked them if they ever read any news besides their own. If they did they would realize that Bush-Cheney is much more than a "Little Flawed". I told them they could have not endorsed anyone if that was the best they could do! So, much for my Austin paper. Guess I will subscribe to the NY Times.

Thanks for posting this info., but I think I may be a week late to join the walk at the bridge.
