Vo by 33 - he gained a vote!

Hi. I just got back from a late lunch with some of the other people at the recount. Vo picked up a vote that had been counted as an undervote on a 772 mail-in ballot.

Final count:

Heflin: 20662
Vo: 20695

Heflin has already filed a contest with the state legislature. So the drama continues.

While driving home from work today I heard on KPFT the end of a report discussing the Vo/Heflin recount. The guy was explaining why Heflin lost a lot of anglo vote. Too bad I didn't hear all of it. It is kind of sad that someone would lose an election by 33 votes though. But since it's a repug in the losing column...I don't feel that sad. Now if only this would have happened to Delay!:-)

Democrat Hubert Vo gained one vote in his narrow victory over state Rep. Talmadge Heflin, R-Houston, after a recount was completed Wednesday, but the Heflin campaign vowed to continue its challenge of the result in the state House.

Republican Rep. Jack Stick of Austin filed a challenge against Democrat Mark Strama, who defeated Stick by 569 votes.

In South Texas, Republican Eric Opiela is contesting the election of Democrat Yvonne Gonzalez Toureilles, who won by 835 votes.

State Sen. Mario Gallegos, D-Houston, also faces an election contest based on his residency from his ex-mistress.
