DON'T STEAL THE ELECTION, MR. HEFLIN
Hubert Vo, a first generation immigrant, representing the hopes and dreams of many of the immigrants and minorities he will represent in District 149, won the election for state representative through hard work and personal accomplishments. Even after the Secretary of State certified that Hubert Vo won the November 2nd election for District 149, a recount was requested by his opponent, Talmadge Heflin. Before this recount was completed, he had already contested the election to the House of Representatives. It seems that he will not stop until he is successful in denying the selection of the voters. But, the will of the people in District 149 must be upheld and respected.
Now, it is time for the opposition to concede the race so that the progress of the district can continue. Mr. Heflin's service to this area and to the State of Texas for more than two decades is appreciated. But, major changes in the demographics and concerns of District 149 have prompted the need for a change in leadership. Mr. Heflin must do the honorable thing and abide by the wishes of the electorate, allowing for a smooth transition to Mr. Vo's assumption of duties to serve the people of District 149. The House must uphold the results of the election.
Contesting this election further will not accomplish any positive results for District 149 or the State of Texas. The will of the people should be heard and followed. Any other action could threaten America's democracy, he same democracy that has allowed a humble, unknown first generation Asian American to run and win fairly, openly and decisively against a twenty-two year veteran and powerful chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. It is a case of the proverbial "Goliath against David" and don't forget that in that proverb, David was victorious.
DON'T LET THIS ELECTION BE STOLEN FROM HUBERT or YOU, or OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS. IF WE ALLOW THE RULES TO CHANGE WITHOUT PUTTING UP A FIGHT, THEN WE HAVE ALLOWED OUR RIGHTS AND OUR WILL TO BE DISREGARDED AND TOSSED ASIDE.
