Question about Bass Hall (Tarrant County)...

I have never been to Bass Hall; my 12 year old son has gone TWICE, on school field trips, and both times I had him wear a suit. I'm planning to buy tickets to see "A Tuna Christmas" for my husband, son, mom, dad, niece, and I. We're planning to go the the 2:00 matinee on a Sunday. We are, in general, very casual people. My husband has a very nice suit, but my son has outgrown his old one, and I haven't the slightest idea what I would wear if we were to all dress up. Having never been there, I have no idea how people generally dress for it. I'd rather not have to go buy new clothes, but I will if I feel it's necessary. I don't want to be overdressed, but I most definitely don't want to be UNDER dressed. Again, this is a Sunday matinee, so maybe it's more casual...? Any advice is very much appreciated!

1. Go casual. I always do.

There will be some there who are dressed coming from church, but many who are not. I'm not talking shorts and sandals - go dressed up casual, pants, sweater, etc. No need for suits for the guys. Slacks and shirt is fine.

Nice sweater and slacks should be fine, esp for a 2pm matinee.

If you are in the upper gallery, you might want to take some binoculars, as you won't want to miss the mugging these guys do in this play!!!

I LOVE THE TUNA GUYS!!!!!

This type of performance would be much more casual than say the opera or the symphony or ballet.

If I were going I would probably wear dress pants and a Christmasy blouse or sweater.

You will love it.

Where are you going to eat?

LaMadeline is nice, and PF Chang's just opened on Throckmorton.
Pizzeria Uno is pretty good too.

There is also Chili's, Bennigan's, Razoo's and the Eight.0
Oh yeah MiCocina has good Mexican food.

And there are some new places too that I don't know the names..

Almost forgot: CORNER BAKERY is very reasonable, convenient to Bass Hall and has nice variety of soups, sandwiches, etc.

5. I've been waiting for at least 10 years to see this;

and this year I thought, "They're not going to be around forever..." I usually wait around for my husband to make our plans, but as soon as I heard they were coming, I said, "We're going!" BTW, they'll be here in April, too, doing "Red, White, and Tuna" at Casa Manana. We're actually going on the Sunday after Christmas Day. My dad works in California, and he won't be home in time to see any of the other performances. We were supposed to leave town for Amarillo that day, but hubby's delaying that so we can go to this. Maybe we can go eat before the show, 'cause I think he'll want to leave right after.

Wow, there are a lot of "new" (to me, anyway) restaraunts downtown! I used to work downtown in the county admin building, across the street from the old courthouse. That was about 13 years ago, and they were just kind of getting started on refurbishing downtown; there weren't many places to eat back then. Thanks for the suggestions!

6. I have seen all three productions..

we bought Casa Manana season tickets the year that "REd White and Tuna"opened, and we saw it @ the Bass Hall. It is a scream.

I may try to see if I can luck up on a single seat for Tuna Christmas
sometimes there are last minute seasonticket holders who release their seats and you can get in.

The difference between downtown FW now and 13 years ago is amazing!
I love downtown! You might try Corner Bakery, if you just get in before the church crowd hits it at 12:30. It is convenient to the Bass Hall and very reasonable. La Madeline is on Commerce up towards the City Center Towers and Riscky's is across the street from LaMadeline.
Sundance Square is the happening place!

Of course you could eat on the way and not bother with downtown restaurants at all.

7. You asked about a dress code...

I think by now you've got the picture...as for lunch before the matinee...you'd be doing yourself a favour to visit Esperanzas on North Main...five minute drive north...not credit cards or cheques...cash only...but worth a trip...great midday atmosphere....no formality...and the whole family will love it...

Just don't tell the folks from Dallas about it...:-)

PS...Thanks for coming to Fort Worth...I think you'll like the experience at Bass Hall....

Unless you want to get technical, I've never lived outside of Tarrant County. I've lived in Fort Worth, Edgecliff Village, Haltom City, Bedford, River Oaks, and currently in unincorporated TC with a Crowley zip!

I know all about Fort Worth's natural superiority to Dallas...

9. LOVE Esperanza's but don't know how late they are open on

Sunday mornings? There is an Esperanza's on South Hemphill street also
between Magnolia and Rosedale, and I am not sure I have ever seen it open on Sunday.

Benito's on Magnolia would be a good choice too.
