KING 5 Poll: Democrats hold leads in top races
Democrats continue to hold onto leads in some of the state's major races, according to the latest poll commissioned for KING 5 News.

John Kerry's 11-point lead over President George Bush in Washington state has slipped to 7 points, according to the poll of 634 likely voters.

-snip-

Survey respondents were asked how they would vote in the races for Senate, governor and attorney general.

Democrats lead in all those races, although former State Insurance Commissioner Deborah Senn's lead in the attorney general race is only 4 points over challenger and King County Council member Rob McKenna.

1. 634? Isn't that a small sample?

2. Not really, although about the smallest that you'd want a poll to be
A 4% margin of error is about the limit that I've seen published national polls at, so that sounds right. Console yourself with the fact that they screwed up here:

Democrats lead in all those races, although former State Insurance Commissioner Deborah Senn's lead in the attorney general race is only 4 points over challenger and King County Council member Rob McKenna.

That lead means the race is a statistical tie because it is within the survey's 4-point margin of error.

This is absurdly false. What this means is that there's a 95% chance that Senn does have a lead over McKenna. That's decidedly very good.

3. We just canceled the Seattle Times because they endorsed McKenna
not to mention Dino Rossi. I never did like the Times anyway - the P.I. isn't perfect, but the Times is almost as bad as the redneck rags like the South County Journal or the Tacoma News-Tribune.
