Bush plans Washington state visit June 17
Edited on Thu Jun-10-04 12:18 AM by flamingyouth
Let's all get out and give him a great big welcome!

OLYMPIA -- President Bush will campaign for Republican Senate hopeful Rep. George Nethercutt on June 17 in Spokane and is also expected to visit the Fort Lewis Army base.

The president's visit was actually announced Wednesday by state Democrats, who provided reporters with a copy of an invitation, on Nethercutt campaign letterhead, announcing the joint appearance.
The main Spokane event will be a "Tribute to Leadership," a $1,000-per-person buffet dinner at the Spokane Convention Center, preceded by a private reception and photo-op for people who raise $10,000 or personally donate $8,000.

The 5th District congressman's campaign declined comment Wednesday and referred calls to the White House, where spokeswoman Pat Stevens said Bush's schedule for that date isn't public yet. The Bush campaign did not immediately return calls. Several Republican sources close to Nethercutt confirmed the visit, but declined to be quoted by name

1. The only time he came to Seattle
There was $2 million in it from a few wealthy backers. The rest of us were confined by the SS to a "free speech zone" a mile from the appearance. It looks like he's afraid to venture out of the few "red" or "green" areas of the state at this point.

2. And wasn't he in Bellevue the whole time?
Or did he come to Seattle? I can't recall. I do remember him being over in Hunt's Point at the McCaw mansion.

3. Shoot, I have a chorus rehearsal that day
in the entirely wrong direction. I can't skip it, either - we have a performance on Saturday. Dammit, I'd like to be there in the free speech detention area with my Like Father Like Son - One Term sign.

Although I've seen one I like better recently: Hey George, Mars Sounds Like a Great Idea - I'll Help You Pack!

4. Protest Bush
Does anyone know the route he will be taking? I think the security will be oppressive near FT. Lewis. I think we should organize a big group on a number of overpasses - unless they fly directly into the FT.

6. Thanks - happy to be here !
How can you tell I am a newbie? I am getting a lot of welcome notes - not that I mind.

We need to mobilize against this Bush campaign.

8. Hi! welcome!
I'm somewhat near Fort Lewis.. I have a feeling that he'll be flown in for an hour and whisked back out. He's only stopping by there because he needs the taxpayers to pay for his fundraising visit to Spokane. I also thought about the overpasses... but man, that area is SO right wing and pro-bush... I might be nervous about that. If he was a NORMAL president, he'd actually go places populated enough for protests.. best chance will be for the Spokane folks to protest near the fundraiser.
