Is it significant that Ken Schram is now criticizing Bush?
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 08:24 PM by rumguy
I'm relatively new to Seattle. Schram has bugged me. He seemed like just another angry white man railing against his pet issue of the week. I just couldn't figure why they gave him a slot on the local news.

But his last two rants have been about the Bush Admins talk of cancelling/postponing the election. And he's pissed.

He even said he thinks the Bush Admin is capable of anything...

So - who is Ken Schram and does he lean left or right, or what?

1. Here's his writeup:
"Ken Schram has been a reporter, special projects manager, editorial director and "Town Meeting" host since 1977 at KOMO 4 News. His commentaries appear regularly, on the air and on the Web."

Here he is on KOMO's webpage: http://www.komotv.com/kenschram/

That didn't really answer your quetion, but it's a start. I live in Seattle, but have fallen out of the habit of listening to the radio (I watch NO television).

2. Last year he was very supportive of the Iraq war
Specifically, he called war opponents "idiots" for not falling for the Bush lines hook line & sinker. I like to remind him of those columns every once in a while when he bitches about the Bush administration. Funny, he never writes back...

So, yeah, in a way, I suppose it is somewhat significant that he's bashing Bush now.

3. Ken leans left and right, actually...
.. he's impossible to peg. I read him fairly often (on the KOMO website). I've written to him a few times to voice my approval or displeasure, and he's written back most times. He's kind of like a lot of people.. doesn't think along Party lines all the time. One minute he's pissed about trying to take the "under God' thing out of the Pledge, the next minute he's pissing of the psycho Christian faction. He falls on both sides of the arguments, depending upon his mood, or personal ideals. Odd, the other day I was ready to write to him because he wrote something just sooo right wing reactionary, then he does that column we're discussing in this thread.

The funniest thing? When he writes about being attacked for his views, the most vehement, violent, and abusive attacks come from self-professed conservative Christians.. who invoke the word of God while calling him an "asshole", and threatening to beat him to a pulp. That kind of stuff will make you lean to the left eventually... I'd say!

4. From what I can glean from reading his past editorials
(I don't watch TV), he's more a libertarian than anything. As such, he might support intervention in Iraq and still be against the curtailment of individual civil rights.

Washington state has a long history of very independent-minded voters.

5. When I first moved here I could NOT stand Schram
and I found the Bush bashing a little, well, hilarious needless to say. A different change..and actually AGREED with him.
