GOP Tries To Sneak $750,000 To Bishop's Creek In Budget.....
As you may recall, Bishop's Creek is run by Bishop Sedgwick Daniels. He is the Milwaukee minister that backed Bush just in time to get nearly $1.5 million in faith based money. Also what is the deal with all this public money to a property involved in an open arson investigation? Check out this for the details:

1. Sure does sound like it's repayment, for a campaign contribution,
doesn't it?

2. Republican generosity to friends
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 10:32 AM by wicasa
From reading the story, it almost appears that their purpose was not just to award their friends, but to deplete the fund so that minorities could not obtain small business loans.

I wouldn't don't that to be part of their motives.

3. Great Point....
Since I wrote this I knew that the money amounted to 2/3 of the fund but I should have focused a bit more on the fact that this would have been 2/3 of the fund as a GRANT. Whereas at least loans come back to it. So you are right... they try to give to their allies AND almost totally zap the fund all at once. In other words...great point :toast:

5. The Gov's veto is good news
I heard the pukes put the money in for Bishop's Creek but I hadn't heard that it had been taken out.

Thanks for posting this and thanks for all your investigative work!

6. Glad it was vetoed - but still outraged
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 12:16 PM by cmt928
These are the things that needed to get into the public's eyes and required ACTION.

Can the DU Activists help with local or state campaigns with LTTE to newspapers, send emails reps to voice our opinions?

7. Got No Response From The Media In My Initial Story....
I originally sent out press releases to all sorts of media when I posted my first story on the Daniels but the only one to contact me on it was Milwaukee Magazine. I think that was only because I posted my story in April (which was the same month that the Daniels were on the cover of their magazine in what I think was another fluff piece). Perhaps more people talking about this stuff to the media/politicians
will motivate someone in power.

8. Do you think any media are willing to publish LTTE's on this mess
or will they shy away out of fear of slander/libel charges?

LTTE's from several people might be a good way to nudge at least the Milwaukee media into covering the story.

10. Not Sure But.....
I know that a well known columnist at the MJS told a friend of mine that they know about some of this but "these people are untouchable" (that is second hand obviously).
I have also heard that the MJS has been represented in the past by lawyers at Quarles and Brady which is where Sedgwick's brother is a partner. But I have not yet confirmed that yet, so take it for what it's worth.

I just noticed that someone from the Wisconsin Department of Administration has now visited my blog. Anyone know what area of that department that might interested in this story?

BTW...sorry for replying so many times to my own post.

12. You're not responding to your own post...
You're responding to responders. There's a difference. :7
(besides, how else do you think we build up our own post count?)

Have you contacted anyone at the Capital Times? They seem more willing to look into stories like this. Once they do, the JS may dedide to get busy.

13. I sent a suggestion to Skinner
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 08:23 PM by cmt928
to see if his database could get DU Activists in just a region to send LTTE and email local TV (to get them do a story on something like this so the public is informed before it is acted upon).

What is wrong with our legsilative process that things like this go on every day and you never hear of 99% of it!

This happens on every level of government ... like why was the Energy Bill just signed 1,700 pages!!!! The general public and the those that represent us have no clue to all the "pork" in bills anymore.
