Anyone know what's up with Kohlenberg challenging Kennedy's sigs?
I did some digging -- just a single line in the Journal Sentinel indicating Gary Kohlenberg was challenging signatures on Bryan Kennedy's nomination papers, and that the Election Boardwill hear the challenge Wednesday. Nothing in the other papers or on Gary's site.

Anyone know what's up? Do any of you have an in with the Kohlenberg campaign? (I'll probably go to a candidate forum Monday where I can ask Bryan or his campaign manager for more details -- but, um, Gary doesn't like me very much, so he won't tell me anything.)

If someone wants to play journalist and give the Kohlenberg campaign a call, that could be good, too. (Again, I'm tainted.) (262) 569-1122 is the office number.

And, for the record -- I do support Gary's right to challenge the signatures (just as I support the Democrats' right to do so with Nader papers). But I'm wondering if there's anything to it or if it's just desperation. (The "getting Bryan fired from his job" is a real hoot -- his treasurer Debra called the one dean at the university where Bryan works who didn't know he was running, and tried to insinuate it was illegal for professors to run for federal office. Guess what? It's not.)

This is the release I got from the Kennedy Campaign today:
Opponent’s Challenge not Deterring Kennedy Campaign

Bryan Kennedy’s Democratic opponent Gary Kohlenberg has launched a full fledged smear campaign in an effort to remove Kennedy’s name from the ballot. After Kennedy and his volunteers collected well over the necessary 1,000 signatures, Kohlenberg is now attempting to get signatures thrown off the petition based on minor technicalities in order to prevent Bryan's name from appearing on the ballot.

“Gary Kohlenberg has been unable to get the support of organized labor, he has been unable to get the support of business groups, and he has been unable to get the support of voters. Instead he has attempted to get Bryan fired from his job, and now this,” said Bill Elliott, Kennedy’s Campaign Manager. “If Mr. Kohlenberg can’t even compete in a campaign against another Democrat, he surely won’t be able to compete against Jim Sensenbrenner come November.”

Elliott stated that the campaign is confident that the challenge will not be effective, and said that Kennedy will continue to focus on getting out his message about affordable health care, supporting our troops and creating jobs.
