1. Hey dragonfly or any other person who can make sense of this
letter I just received from State of Wisconsin\Government Accountability Board. I have been told in this letter that: Before 2003 your date of birth was not required in order to register to vote. Since 2003, there have been significant changes to laws regulating electtions and voter registration. All new voters are now required to provide their date of birth in order to reister to vote. Here is the sentence that has me confused: Because you reigstered at the above address before this became a requirement , we are now requesting this information from you.

This is the second letter in two years I have recieved on this issue. The first was from my village municipal court and I called and verified over the summer that this was not a mandate, and that my birtdate was not required. It was not a mandate but a request.

2. YES, Birthdate is required
though it was not previously. This is exactly the sort of "error" that Van Hollen wants used to purge the voter rolls. Please get the information in asap. Also, everyone should check with their own election officials to make sure their registration is accurate and complete.

My partner (he's an attorney) and I (not an attorney, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night) are meeting on Monday with a Deputy Director for Voter Protection for WI for the campaign. The campaign is looking for "Counsel for Change," attorneys who are willing and able to give time to the campaign for the next couple of months. My partner used to be Clerk/Treas Administrator for the Town of Middleton, and I was Chief Election Inspector there, just as the HAVA conversion to Accenture was beginning, so we figured we have some experience that might be useful.

Considering Van Hollen's latest games, I am afraid the services of many attorneys will be required in order to keep from disenfranchising many qualified voters.

Please feel free to email me directly if you have any problems with voter registration. We'll do the best we can to help you get to the right resources.

3. Another batch of classes
September 29 Appleton, Public Library, 1 pm and 5 pm
September 30 Two Rivers, Aurora Medical Center, 10 am and 1 pm
October 1 Milwaukee, Aurora Family Services, 3200 W Highland Blvd., 10 am and 1 pm
October 1 Tomohawk, CESA #9, TBA
October 2 Turtle Lake, CESA #11, 1 pm
October 2 Hudson, St. Croix County Courthouse, 5 pm
October 3 Burlington, Burlington Wellness Center, 300 McCanna Parkway, 10 am and 1 pm
October 6 Ashland, Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center, 1 pm

Here's the website where you must register in advance for the class:
http://elections.state.wi.us/subcategory.asp?linksubcatid=2376&linkcatid=2435&linkid=158&locid=47

The term of appointment lasts only until the end of this year, and deputy registrars can register voters only until October 15, but on the other hand, every vote counts, and you never know when the voter you register will be the one that makes the difference.
