That was a very good pick. They realize that there is virtually no way they are getting to the Super Bowl this season. No matter how many picks they had or how high those picks were, they do not have the horses. This is a longer term pick. It will pay off.
The Pack will draft defense in the 2nd round. There are plenty of quality players left. Channing Crowder, ILB form FL; Matt Roth, DE from IA; Brodney Pool, S from OK; Cory Webster, CB from LSU. They can still draft quality.

2. I'm an Iggles fan, but remember when????........ |
|
the Iggles fans booed McNabb 7 years ago??? It turned out o.k. for us, so take heart. As long as Sherman knows what he's doing, he'll start building the team back up and who knows where it'll go?

Personally, I think the Pack is getting a helluva player. This is an excellent long-term pick. I'm shocked he lasted as long as he did in the draft - not many folks expected him to be available for Green Bay.
I was sitting in the student section at the Colliseum last season when Cal played at USC, and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth. Aaron Rodgers played the game of his life and almost singlehandedly beat USC. Not many players can say that...

4. Brett's one good hit away from retirement |
|
I agree they need reinforcement elsewhere this year if they want to make a serious SB run, but it's time to start thinking long term too. Doug Peterson's not getting any younger. Like it not, it's time to get some new blood on the queue. Besides, having Brett as a mentor until he retires is one hell of a positive.
I'm not starting a flame, just looking from a more long term viewpoint. It's time to start thinking about P.P.F. (Packers Post-Favre)

5. I just feel we owe it to Brett |
|
to try and put the best team possible on the field.I think we owe him that much for the way he has performed and acted while leading the pack.I'm not thinking long term.

6. Even one good impact player won't help GB win Super Bowl |
|
I would really want to think that GB could win soon, but realistically they probably couldn't even with a great rookie.
They will need some time to re-build - it might be good to have someone who can learn from Brett.

7. I hear ya, and agree that's a fair expectation. |
|
Trust me, I'm a huge Favre fan but I also think he's beginning to recognize he's winding down. We all know his retirement is the 200lb gorilla in the room.
Last years loss to the Vikes in the playoffs was not the way he (or any of us except Vikes fans) wanted him to leave. I'm guessing even if they're not contenders this year he'd like to go out on any note but that one!
Oh yeah...Randy who? :)

8. I just hope Brett doesn't end up on his back all season. |
|
With Mike W and Marco gone, and two aging O linemen to take their place, I see Brett either running for his life or being on his back all this season. I'm afraid it's going to be a long one too. :scared: :scared:

9. That is not necessarily a bad thing, though |
|
The Packers have been at the top of the NFL for over a decade. It is time that we begin to rebuild for the future. Yes, it may mean a few down seasons, but look at the salary cap position we are in right now. We cannot compete for the elite free agents and, let's face it, we are more than one or two players away from competing for the Super Bowl. We must now concentrate on proving that we can climb back up the mountain.
