Is Bryan Kennedy a New Democrat |
|
and if he is, does that bother anyone here?
It doesn't really bother me, but I know many on DU would have a problem with it.
I just noticed BK's links on his website. They are somewhat DLC flavored.

3. I'm peddling him to DU and Kos |
|
and I want to be ready for the inevitable "But he's part of that evil DLC!"
And, if I'm going to campaign for him, I need a handle on what he stands for. Is he a Clintonesque Moderate, or how else would you classify him?

9. I think he's kind of a John Edwards populist |
|
And he's a good guy. I've gotten to know him pretty well in person over the last couple of years.
Take a look at his issues -- he's a progressive, marketed as an average Joe.
I'm just glad there's credible opposition to Sensenbrenner in an otherwise "safe" district.

2. In comparison to Sensenbrenner |
|
DLC is a weed smoking, peace loving, vegan hippie.
That's how far right wacked Sensenbrenner is.

Your question seems to be asking which is the lesser of two evils? The DLC or the GOP? In the case of Sensenbrenner, that question answers itself.
Anything to the left of Sensenbrenner is an improvement. We must stand united against the GOP regardless of our differences with our party members or leadership. Simply stated, the DLC is not the enemy regardless of how they (sometimes) appear to align themselves with the center. We don't need litmus tests, just a "(D)" after their name.
Is that blind allegiance? Maybe. But we know how those with "R's" after their name govern.
"United we stand, divided we fall" and all that...

with a lot of what has been said above.....
I'm beginning to believe that there are certain "threshhold issues" that must be met and after that, all that is required is that the person is basically sane.... Kennedy, New Dem or not, is light years better than Sensenbrenner....I also have a suspicion that in order to win in that district, Kennedy is going to have to position himself a lot farther to the "right" than most of us are comfortable with....but it's a small price to pay in order to get rid of Sensenbrenner.

I just need to be able to defend the guy. I'm down with party unity and all. It bothers me not at all if Kennedy is New Dem. I just know how the rest of DU tends to react, so it panicked me that I was pushing somebody that the rest of the board might end up attacking. I'm trying to do something positive, and I was afraid it would turn into a negative if I wasn't careful.
In other news, I put the race in as one that perhaps the "Swing State Project" could adopt. Here's hoping

I think you are being a little over worried as to people's sentiments toward DLC'ers here.
We may not prefer them, but we won't burn them at the stake.

He's for election reform nationwide, and a Voter Verified Paper Ballot not just in Wisconsin. Good enough reason for me to support him. We need that district to turn blue folks. Can you point to something on his website that you don't like?

This discussion to GD or GD Politics you may catch a little flack, but here on the Wisconsin board we all know the demographics of your district well enough to know that Dennis Kucinich is not gonna get elected in your district and someone like Kennedy is pretty the best we can hope for
