Calgary pied pipers rid neighbourhood of rats
Calgary - An infestation of 38, fast-breeding Norway rats had a city neighbourhood scrambling to keep Alberta's status as the only rat-free province in the country.

Acadia residents jumped into the fray when an alert neighbour spotted one of the rodents, and they tracked the vermin to their nest under a lilac bush.

"Mr. Cucheran down the street there seen one of them running across the lawn there and he got it with a broom," Frank Szautner said. "That's what started it all.

"We clubbed them with brooms and 2 by 4s. Got most of them that way."

They should throw them in jail. At least for the weekends.

1. should be in jail?
"It is illegal to have a live rat in Alberta, which has been rat-free since 1950. The province maintains a rat patrol to keep the vermin, which carry disease and contaminate grain supplies, out."

3. They should throw them in jail.
What is the antecedent of them? If you mean the Acadia residents, you have had limited experience with rats. I hate rats more than Winston Smith. Anything is fair.

Klein pie-thrower gets jail time
CALGARY - The man who hit Alberta Premier Ralph Klein in the face with a cream pie at last year's Calgary Stampede is going to spend his weekends in jail.

Christopher Geoghegan, 25, was sentenced Monday to 30 days, starting this weekend. The sentence includes 40 hours of community service and three
"The case precedent is to give a non-custodial sentence and they've broken that now and set a higher bar,'" he said.

Geoghegan's lawyer also says the sentence is inappropriate, and promises to launch an immediate appeal.

With over two hundred PR people in the government controlling everything they could have at least kept the rats away.
