McGuinty plans fiscal imbalance lectures
CHATHAM — It’s back to square 1 for Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.

Back home from an unsuccessful meeting with Canada’s premiers, McGuinty turned his focus back to the province’s voters Monday as he pledged to help educate ordinary Ontario residents about the intricacies of the so-called fiscal imbalance.

That way, they’ll be informed when Prime Minister Stephen Harper makes a decision on how to change the way provinces get their share of the fiscal pie, McGuinty said.

Without naming names, he said some wanted to enrich the equalization program, which would mean even less for Ontario.

“There’s no such thing as one-sided compromise,” he said. “As Ontarians, we are proud, generous Canadians, like all Canadians, but don’t try and take advantage of us.”

Looks to me like a certain premier is getting involved in federal elections that will be coming in the not to distant future. And looks like those neighbourly premiers that will be supporting Harper might take note that they may not be getting any gifts from Ontario.
