CBC-TV picks up most of Gemini Awards

The CBC has picked up the lion's share of industry prizes at the Gemini Awards honouring the best in homegrown television — but wasn't facing any organized competition this year from its biggest traditional rival, CTV News.

CTV president Robert Hurst announced earlier this year that CTV News would not participate in the awards because the time involved in preparing entries was not worth the effort.

Other CTV departments and specialty channels were eligible to vie for the awards, as were any CTV News employees who wished to submit entries on an individual basis.
