OTTAWA — Stephen Harper is reaching out to the Liberals in an effort to drive a wedge into the opposition coalition and save his tottering government.
In an interview with the CBC on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said the "big national parties" must work together in this time of economic crisis.
He said he hopes the new Liberal leader — the sole remaining candidate being Michael Ignatieff, now that Bob Rae has dropped out of the race — will meet with him and put forward proposals the government can consider for the Jan. 27 federal budget.
But Mr. Harper refused to accept any blame for causing the recent political crisis, or admit that controversial measures in his fiscal update were a mistake.
Instead, he said there was a conspiracy by opposition leaders to bring down his government regardless of what was in update.

Don't trust him, Iggy. He will stab you when he gets a chance.
