Canada to close ports to Denmark
CANADIAN PRESS

ST. JOHN'S — Canada will close its ports to Denmark tomorrow, an escalation in a dispute between the two countries over shrimp caught just outside Canadian jurisdiction, federal sources say.

Sources say a vessel from the Faroe Islands, a self-governing region of Denmark, has resumed a shrimp fishery outside Canada's 200-mile limit although the country has long surpassed its legal quota.

Faroese fishermen had ceased their shrimp harvest in August after Canada threatened to ban Danish, Faroese and Greenlandic boats from Canadian ports.

But Faroese Fisheries Minister Bjorn Kalso warned then that shrimp boats would return to the international waters if the Faroe Islands were not allotted a greater share of the European shrimp catch.

3. intrestingly enough
Canada and Denmark haven't been on the best of terms. This is because the Danes have been challenging claims to Canadian sovreignty over the arctic.
