'Mean-spirited' government punishing Khadr: lawyer
Omar Khadr's lawyer says his client is being unfairly punished by the Conservative government, which has steadily refused to request his repatriation from Guantanamo Bay despite court rulings ordering it to do so.

On Tuesday, Ottawa confirmed it will fight the decision and take the case all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Khadr's Canadian lawyer Denis Edney said he is mystified by the government's continued refusal to bring Khadr home.

"Every Western country that has had a detainee in Guantanamo Bay has simply requested that their detainees come home, and that has happened," Edney told CTV News Channel.

In its decision earlier this month, the court of appeal upheld the Federal Court's earlier ruling that ordered Ottawa to press for Khadr's return.

What a bunch of bloody chickenshits, they really are CRAP. Instead of doing what is the right thing, they want the Obama Administration to make the decision about a CANADIAN citizen so they don't have to be accountable. Disgusting.

1. It's more they want him *not* to
If Khadr's tried in the US and, through some wacky miracle, gets a non-rigged court and is found not guilty, he'd theoretically be free to return up here, but I can guarantee Harper will fight it tooth and nail, and I can also guarantee that he'll arrest him and try double-dipping charges as necessary if he does set foot in Canada.

"Depressing" is one word for that; there are others.
