Trailer Park Boys Christmas!
I almost missed it -- it was on last night (Sunday), but I didn't know. About 2 a.m., while taping the Passionate Eye doc on the Weather Underground for us to watch tonight, I was flicking around for something to watch and hit Showcase and figured I'd watch the TPB rerun of the night. And after 20 seconds, it hit me I hadn't seen it before. (We've seen 'em all about 6 times, and so far I've got the season 1 set of tapes, for last year's birthday.)

It's the Xmas Special! Because we have digital cable, I caught it on tape on Showcase West later in the morning. But if you missed it, it's still not too late.

For those with digital cable, it's on IFC tonight at 9 and again after midnight. And Showcase is showing it again:

Ah, it's showing it again lots.

Also airing:

Tuesday, December 14
at midnight et/pt

Thursday, December 16
at 9 pm et/pt

Monday, December 20
at 10 pm et/pt

Wednesday, December 22
at 9 pm et/pt

Saturday, December 25
at 9 pm et/pt

Tuesday, December 28th
at 12:10 am et/pt

Sunday, January 2nd
at 9 pm et/pt

I was going to say that if you have digital cable but not IFC, call up that old cable provider and sign up for it for a week, to catch the show tonight. But no need, it's on regular old cable-plus for the next two weeks. Not on xmas eve, when it should be watched, but perfect for taping and watching while waiting for Santa.

Btw, don't read the description at that link I gave. It's more fun without knowing the plot.

1. It was the same as all their other episodes

Absolutely hilarious! I LOVE those boys - it was great to see them at xmas time!

Ricky is the undisputed king of all idiots and I adore that about him.

2. ah, we all have our faves

Julian is the undisputed king of bad boys, and can hang his xmas stocking on my chimney any night. ;)

You know they got it on cable in the US this past year ... bleeped. I'm sending a copy of the special to one of my favourite DUers in the US, but sshh, it's a surprise.

3. I was waiting for it for about a month
Not disappointed! High point: the weed and booze party in the jail. Also Bubbles and the letter from Mom; I think that was the most poignant moment I've seen on the box in quite a while.

Trailer Park Boys was also twice nominated for a Gemini Award in the "Best Ensemble Performance in a Comedy Program or Series" category.
That's a fun read: a Broadcasting Standards complaint about TPB.

The complainant sent in the following hand-written letter on March 14, 2003:

I was watching the Trailer Park Boys on channel 40 - Showcase last night - March 13th, 2003. There is a lot of cursing and bad language on this program but what I am very concerned about is that in one of the scenes, which occurred in a kitchen, one of the male actors said the word "fucken {sic} dick" in front of a young girl about (5) years old and in another scene where a wedding was going to occur and the police arrived, there was some terrible swearing going on while a little girl was walking down the street.

I consider this child abuse. Please let me know.

Sincerely,

6. Fun facts
It was shot in mid-summer, the snow is all Zamboni poop. That's why you couldn't see their breath. Also, some poor schlub had to go up and strip all the leaves off a couple of willow trees.

7. I wondered about that!
There was a lot of that Zamboni stuff around though.

At least Randy didn't freeze his belly off that way, anyhow.

Can there be anyone who isn't intimately familiar with that belly?

Elf off, eh?

I have to say I loved the grocery bag Santa beard. Hook the handles over the ears, and voilà, just the gear for the weather we're having here this week, too.

When Barb was in the drive thru getting cheeseburgers, I knew - Randy!

My wife saw Corey walking down the street in Halifax the other day. I wonder how that guy ever thought he wpuld be a celebrity? I saw him on the local cable channel with his dance troupe too. weird modern dance in tennis uniforms. wacky

10. When I first saw it I didn't twig on it for the first ten minutes. It just

looked like lame, bash the po folks humour.

By the end of the episode I thought "this is some seriously subversive shit". Ricky, Julian and Bubbles beating each other to a pulp with baseball bats because they were stoned and thought each other were space monsters. Bubbles' Ricky hating teddy bear??????

If this show ever makes it to the Bible Belt the fur is goin' to fly, guaranteeeeeeeeeeeed.
