Reading Canadian newspapers is SUCH a breath of fresh air
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 11:19 PM by ailsagirl
It's so REFRESHING (you have no idea) to read honest news stories!! To read articles that TELL THE TRUTH about what's going on. The coverage of Dub's visit to Canada (in Canadian media) was wonderful-- you guys are so progressive and we are sliding back into oblivion. It's pathetic and tragic.

I'm so glad your PM isn't impressed with Dub. Who could be?? Dub is surrounded by sycophants and other, disgustingly corrupt, cronies...

What a bunch of creeps.

Any surprise so many of us are moving north??

8. Thanks Ailsagirl

Yes...you can go online and get the majority of our newspapers. Here are a few good sites:

www.canoe.ca
www.bourque.com

You'll find the "SUN" newspapers to be more conservative and the Toronto Star to be more liberal.

BTW, what do Americans think of Eric Margolis?
I think he's one of the best reporters out there.

11. I love the Toronto Star--
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 05:09 PM by ailsagirl
My Dad was born and raised in Ontario so I have a special feeling for it. I love the articles and editorials I've read re Dub-- they're right on the MARK!!!

The Canadians aren't fooled by this phony, homespun hypocrite

One whom historians refer to as the worst US president and the "most dangerous US president"

12. Wrong.
The Post is a GREAT paper. You may disagree with its right-wing slant, but its an enjoyable read, and I find that its much better to read editorials that open and challenge your mind to other viewpoints rather than reading a paper (eg. the Toronto Star) that only reinforces your worldview.

Besides, I couldn't go wrong with the deal I was offered -- $25 for a full year of the Post (that's less than $0.10 per paper!)

13. I read The Toronto Star online every day...
http://www.thestar.com

Smart, and an enjoyable read...

Also love The Globe and Mail "Canada's National Newspaper", but it recently started charging extra for anything in depth online... So, I just hit the main stories on there...

15. Nope. Right.
The National Post is a cesspool of right-wing hack propaganda, bad writing, crypto-fascism, and outright lies. It's clothed in fake elegance with its fancy fonts, but it's a whore all the same.

Glad that's settled forever.

:hi:

16. Well, I hope we can agree to disagree.
I hate almost everything it stands for politically. But it's not a bad newspaper. It's got great business section(s). It's fun to read.

Frankly, I'd rather support CanWest than almost any American media conglomerate.

19. Can West is the worst right wing claptrap ever!
since they took over Victoria's daily TC and Chek TV I quit reading/watching. They are totally the worst. Thank goodness for the CBC.

17. Can West, Yuck
Can West is a poor media outlet. They control many of the major dailies throughout Canada, ie: the Victoria Times-Colonist, the Vancouver Sun (not to be confused with the other "Sun's"), the Edmonton Journal, the Calgary Hearld and so on.

The National Post is a pretty bad paper -- they give it away for free in many places ie: schools because they have a lot of difficulty competing with the Globe and in Toronto the Star. They claim to be a quality read but if you want a good national read the Globe and Mail is far better. Furthermore they have a good selection of editorialist's ranging from righty-tighties to gasp actual socialists.

The Toronto Star is a pretty good read as well. You might find some local weekly papers intresting.

18. I liked how the Globe and Mail made a cover story ...
... out of how staged the Bush visit to Halifax was (right down to their bringing their own backdrop!). They put it out on the same day Bush was in town, too.

The closest I've seen to that in US coverage is the Bumiller piece on how they arranged the "Mission Accomplished" photo-op on the aircraft carrier -- a couple of years into Bush's term.
