Can you recommend a decent / nice hotel in Toronto?
I'm coming up either the last weekend of January or the first weekend of February. I haven't been to Toronto since 1996 or so and I forget where I stayed then. I don't need a phone in the bathroom or any of that. Just clean and in a central location.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

PS: I'm getting more serious about moving to Canada (filing for permanent resident) and want to see Toronto at its coldest. Want to check out neighborhoods and stuff.

1. Why. . . the Sheraton, of course. . .
Right downtown and centrally located.

6. I have not been in 20yrs but the Sheraton Center
was my WINTER favorite. Lots of restaurants, and a underground walkway to a mall. And you can do a lot without going out.

2. The Delta Chelsea is Nice
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 05:58 PM by Danmel
We stayed there a while ago, but friends stayed there more recently and really liked it- the location is good too. And BTW- that $500 a night thing is nonsense- I checked and the rooms are in the $100 -$125 range (canadian).

10. Thanks to all for many great suggestions
I just booked the Delta Chelsea for the first weekend of WinterCity and Winterlicious (1/28/2005). Love the location and the price - $89CAD/night.

Looking forward to my visit!

3. I stayed in the Bond Hotel last time I was there.
Nothing fancy, that's for sure, but reasonable and very central.

Here's a list

it's hard to say what's right for you without knowing you but hopefully you can find something here. I moved to Toronto after Bush's first election - it's soooo worth it.
Feel free to email or pm me if you have questions at any point.

Peace!
Justin

7. I've stayed at Bond Place too! In 70's when new, also after renovations
Michaels Inn is nice too if it is still there.

8. As far as neighborhood recommendations,
Please let us know what you're looking for and we can make some suggestions for you. There are all kinds, extremely diverse.

I'm bias to Bloor West Village and High Park, personally. (10 mins West of downtown) If I ever had to move back to "the city", that's where I would go back to.
Best of luck to you!

9. The Soho Metropolitan was WONDERFUL.

We stayed there last October (2003), and it's very luxurious. Heated floors in the bathroom, wonderfully soft linens, and very comfortable.

There's a hip martini bar in the lobby, and a nice cafe for breakfast.

Right next door to Second City with a great Italian restaurant (our waiter saw my anti-Bush stuff and we had a great conversation-- and the pizza was wonderful.) It's also kitty corner from Wayne Gretzsky's place. And a short walk to some of the entertainment spots (very close to the Black Bull Pub, and not too far from shopping, the Hard Rock, etc)

Have fun!
