Front page above the fold is a big picture of Teresa Heinz Kerry with her hand over her mouth and a tiny caption mentioning that she's testing the sound system, NOT (as one might assume) saying "Oops".

That, of course, is what one would assume from the big blaring headline about the "Shove it" non-incident, which then takes up roughly a quarter of the front page as the lead article.

Fuck the National Post, fuck Conrad Black, fuck the Asper brothers, and fuck all wot sails in 'em, say I. Especially David Frum. No, make that Mark Steyn. No, wait--make that Crist Blatchford. No, wait...

7. I just signed on

-- no, not to the Post, nothing on earth would induce me to do that.

But to one of its upper-echelon siblings, my local rag which I discontinued subscribing to the instant Konrad bought it, years ago. Never could figure out why all my progressive fellow city-people kept buying the thing.

This is the second time this year I've been canvassed to take 3 months of papers, 7 days a week, for the price of the weekend papers. We do, I admit, buy the Saturday edition at the corner store already. So this "trial" sub (which will now be 6 months out of about 14) serves 3 purposes --

We get the Saturday paper delivered, and don't have to rush out in the a.m. so as to have something to do on Saturday morning (and can go out at our convenience to get the Globe and Star) -- and get the paper the other 6 days of the week too -- for only $1 more a week than we already pay.

The canvasser gets the full commission for the sale.

The delivery person gets the full commission for the delivery.

(I ascertained both of those facts before signing up.)

The Aspers eat the cost.

Yay! (edit -- oops, that's *4* birds with one stone, this being the biggest one. ;) )

They're obviously desperate, to keep coming back with this offer.

Unfortunately, the municipality has to pay for the recycling ...
