They didn't say who go what from whom,so it must be a story in the making.

To fight same-sex marriage in Canada. U.S. groups taking credit for Bush re-election fund local allies' efforts to 'save the family'

ELIZABETH THOMPSON; KIRSTEN SMITH of CanWest News Service contributed to this report.

Powerful religious groups in the United States are quietly sending money and support to allies in Canada fighting same-sex marriage.

Moreover, some U.S. groups say they are prepared to spend whatever it takes to ensure same-sex marriage does not become legal north of the border.

Patrick Korten, vice-president of communications for the Knights of Columbus head office in New Haven, Conn., says no limit has been set on the help his organization is prepared to offer.

3. Time To Look
At tax exempt groups.

David Krayden was born in Comox, B.C. in 1965 and studied at Carleton University in Ottawa, earning an honours degree in journalism and political science.
After beginning his career as a journalist, David was recruited into the public affairs branch of the Canadian Forces in 1990. Achieving the rank of captain in the Air Force, David spent nine years as a military spokesman at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa and Canadian Forces Base Comox.

In 1999, David was asked by Calgary Northeast M.P. Art Hanger to join him in Ottawa as his executive assistant. In February 2004, he was appointed B.C. Director of Concerned Christians Canada and in July became National Director.

4. I totally agree with you
I donate to 2 groups that don't have tax exempt status because they are considered too politically active. Why should these so-called religious groups that are trying to subvert the political system in any way, shape or form be tax exempt.

5. the Victoria MP (David Anderson) has been getting abusive phone calls
One of the local NDP people checked in to ask about his position (he's planning on voting in favour of the bill). His aide said that they've been getting a lot of unpleasant calls and letters trying to get him to change his mind, for the past 3 weeks or more. (And the local university has an astroturf group that's trying to get the "women's freedom to choose" clause removed from the student union constitution.)

I'm going to take a bunch of cookies and a supportive note to Anderson's office. Sounds like they could use some cheering up.

2. To our Canadian friends...
We're so sorry. Unfortunately these fundamentalist freaks have their own take on NAFTA. Actually, I think they're paranoid that successful gay marriage in Canada might one day make Americans see the light. So this is yet another in a long string of apologies Blue America has been making to our friends around the world over the last 4+ painful years.

7. Harper's got some of them working for him
He hired a bunch of Repuke thugs to design and execute his antigay campaign, and I hate to say this, but I think he's succeeding. He wants to ride this pony all the way to Sussex Drive.

Fucking power-mad fascist prick. If Martin wants to beat him, he should start calling him "Dubya" and naming his Repuke hirelings in public. Make that the issue!

:grr:

8. I'm waiting for the latest conservative incarnation to implode.
There are too many differences between the Reform/Alliance wing and the Progressive Conservative wing for the marriage to last. We gort a hint of that last week- look for more to come.

9. Yeah there's been
a lot of internal feuding in that party.

SoCons against the Red Tories again. Same thing that broke up the PC party in the first place.

Circular firing squad.

10. One would hope so...

Between Peter (Pond Scum) MacKay, the backstabber's backstabber, and Brenda (Shit for Brains) Stronach, Harper could well be in for a rough ride internally.

That would be nice. I'd enjoy seeing them claw each other to death.

11. Sorry to hear that.
I just want to encourage people not bend at all for these anti-family, anti-marriage jerks from the States.

Do not say that "Homosexuality is natural. Therefore, they should not be punished". Say that homosexuality doesn't hurt anybody, and that it's anti-family and anti-marriage to oppose same sex marriages.

I think where the Democratic Party in the States went wrong was where they kept trying to make excuses and apologies for their progressive values. So please try not to make excuses or apologies to people. Stand your ground!

I think that one poster was right. If Canada can show how successful gay marriages can be and show that it's not destroying the country, then it will only be a matter of time before the anti-gay marrige wall falls in the States. I'm already betting on civil unions being legal *before* Bush is out of office. Separate is not equal though. We want equality for gays in both countries!

And of course this is a different form of US Imperialism and I'm sorry about this. Really, I am.

Sorry, I guess I'm just excited! I'm energized! I'm ready to kick some anti-gay, anti-family, and anti-marriage butt!

12. It Is
A question of rights. The right to live a life as one wishes. It does not hurt/impose on anyones rights.

It is not a question of defending the position but of enforcing the right of a human being.

This may be leading you astray, but I think that your position doesn't utilize "I have a dream."

13. I really wish one of them would phone me.
Oh, I'd give them what for. Their ears would crisp and burn. Their brains would explode. These would be very small explosions, but then we'd be rid of them.

Since I'm not an MP or policymaker of any sort, it's not too likely.
